Fans of Jeopardy across the globe continue to hold a heavy heart in the wake of host Alex Trebek's passing at the age of 80. As one of America's all-time best game show hosts, Trebek appeared in over 8,000 episodes of the premiere quiz show since its inception in 1984, according to IMDb. Over that span, Trebek became a pop-cultural icon who would be immortalized through other TV shows such as The Simpsons, The X-Files, and many more.

Although Trebek is synonymous with Jeopardy, ABC has no plans of canceling the show anytime soon. And while nobody can fill his shoes entirely, there are several celebrities who could potentially replace Alex Trebek as the host of Jeopardy.

Mario Lopez

Although Saved By the Bell fans will forever know him as A.C. Slater, the fact remains that Mario Lopez has turned himself into a capable and charismatic TV show host over the past two decades or so. He could easily parlay his emceeing skills as the new host of Jeopardy.

In addition to guest-hosting several episodes of Ellen, Lopez has most recently logged over 700 combined episodes hosting All Access, Access Holywood, and Access Daily. Lopez also has game show experience, having hosted 42 episodes of The X-Factor in 2012-13.

Michael Strahan

Another ubiquitous TV host brimming with charm is Michael Strahan, the Super Bowl-winning football player who defeated Tom Brady as part of the 2007  New York Giants. Since retiring from the game, Strahan has completely reinvented his image as a delightful talk show host and co-anchor of Good Morning America.

In addition to hosting such game shows as The $100,000 Pyramid from 2016-2019, Strahan hosted an apropos series entitled What is Jeopardy: Alex Trebek and America's Most Popular Quiz Show that aired on January 2, 2020.

Neil Patrick Harris

Specifically, Harris hosted Genius Junior in 2018 and narrated Brain Games and Test Your Brain in 2011. In addition to his game show work, Harris has served as guest-host for Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Harris has even appeared as the Fake Host of Jeopardy, a Video Presenter, and a Celebrity Guest on the show.

Ken Jennings

One of the best ways to honor Alex Trebek's lasting legacy would be to replace him with one of Jeopardy's all-time greatest contestants. Of all candidates, none comes to mind faster than Ken Jennings.

During his impressive run as Jeopardy champion, Jennings won 74 consecutive games for a grand total of $2,520,700. During his repeat appearances on the show, Jennings made a meaningful friendship with Trebek, who admired his gamesmanship like few others. Jennings currently serves as contestant and co-host of Game Show Network's Masterminds.

John Michael Higgins

Those familiar with the show know Higgins is the kind of elegant class-act that could rival that of Alex Trebek. He's spent the last three years training for the perfect opportunity and would likely exceed as the host of Jeopardy from day one.

Aisha Tyler

With 140 episodes hosting Whose Line Is It Anyway under her belt (and counting), Aisha Tyler would be an inspired choice to become the newest hostess of Jeopardy. Aside from her radiant charm, Tyler appeared on Celebrity Jeopardy twice, making it all the way to the Million Dollar Quarter Invitational Final 7. She knows the game in and out.

Moreover, Tyler has hostess experience dating back to the 2006 show At The Movies. She has hosted CBS This Morning and Celebrity Name Game, just to name a few.

Alfonso Ribeiro

Alfonso Ribeiro AFHV

While forever immortalized as Carlton Banks, Alfonso Ribeiro has found a second act as one of America's top TV show hosts. He's currently hosted 110 episodes and counting of America's Funniest Home Videos, which happens to be air on ABC just like Jeopardy.

Since he's already a network employee, it makes a lot of sense for ABC brass to move Rebeiro over to replace Alex Trebek. Ribeiro also has recent game-show experience as the host of Catch 21, his second stint hosting the series.

Steve Harvey

As one of America's preeminent TV emcees, Steve Harvey could easily forgo his current role as host of Family Feud and step in for Alex Trebek on Jeopardy.

In addition to hosting 688 episodes of Family Feud and counting, Harvey has nearly 20 years of game show experience dating back to Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge in 2003. Despite that one blunder, Harvey also continues to host the annual Miss Universe pageant. Harvey has emceed the talent show Little Big Shots from 2016-18 and Funderdome in 2017.

Brooke Burns

Brook Burns Masterminds

Actress turned TV show hostess Brooke Burns has spent the better half of the last decade specifically emceeing quiz shows. Her old show The Chase, which ran for 37 episodes from 2013-2015, was probably the best quiz show on TV not named Jeopardy.

Burns currently hosts the quiz show Masterminds for Game Show Network, which also guest-stars Ken Jennings. Given her understanding of trivia and the quiz show format, Burns could easily slide into the role voided by Trebek's passing.

LeVar Burton

Since an impassioned online petition to get LeVar Burton to replace Alex Trebek has already been created, it makes sense that he tops the list of potential candidates as the next Jeopardy host. The Reading Rainbow icon made a name for himself educating children, so making the leap to the country's best quiz show seems natural.

Although it's been a while since he's hosted a TV show, Burton has experience going back to 1977-78 as the co-host of The Mike Douglas Show. He's currently the number one fan favorite to replace Alex Trebek.
