Jensen Ackles has bid Supernatural a heartfelt good-bye via an Instagram post. The CW show follows the adventures of brothers Dean (Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) as they travel the country hunting monsters and demons of all shapes and sizes.

After fifteen years on air, Supernatural is finally coming to a close. Although the show was slated to end months earlier, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic meant that filming for the last episode was delayed. Cast members finally received the green light to resume filming last week, and both Ackles and Padalecki took to social media to share emotional messages, where they both updated fans and thanked them for the continued love and support.

Jensen Ackles is the latest member of the Supernatural family to bid a bittersweet farewell of the show when he posted a series of photos on Instagram. The first two pictures depict Ackles with Dean's beloved 1967 black Chevrolet Impala; the third and final photo shows both Ackles and Padalecki, with the Impala still in the shot. You can check out Ackles' post below:

Ackles accompanied the images with a heartfelt caption, expressing his gratitude for his time on the show. In his caption, he looks back at the past 15 years and says that it was a truly life-changing experience. In addition, Ackles thanks both the cast and crew members of Supernatural, as well as the show's loyal fans, who have stuck by the series throughout the years. While the caption is enough to bring even the most casual of fans to tears, Ackles does end on a lighthearted note, saying that he would try and upload more shots from his final day on set later, but "in true SPN form" they were currently "in the middle of 'nowhere.'" It's clear that Ackles is reminiscing on his time on the show with nothing but gratitude, and it's a sentiment echoed by every viewer that's been there for Sam and Dean Winchester since the beginning.

Although it's always hard to come to terms with the end of a long-running show, Supernatural's finale seems particularly difficult to grapple with, in part because of the easygoing, brotherly dynamic between Ackles and Padalecki. Yet while Sam and Dean Winchester's stories have come to a close—at least for now—fans can take comfort in knowing that this is by far not the last time that they will see Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki on screen.
