The creative team for Dark Horse's upcoming Jenny Zero has an official Spotify playlist that will contain tracks representative of each issue from the mini-series, and the first issue's tracks have been compiled. Every song will be added to the Dark Horse Spotify channel. The four-issue mini-series is about a hard-drinking version of Supergirl, the daughter of the legendary superhero Mega Commander Zero. She needs to make a choice between living a lush celebutante life or being a superhero who takes on the new monsters that threaten the safety of the entire world.

The upcoming series comes from writers Dave Dwonch and Brockton McKinney. The two were inspired by kaiju stories when creating the kaiju-hunting hijinks in Jenny Zero. The artwork for the series is by Magenta King, with art complemented by the colors of Megan Huang.

The playlist for the first issue of Jenny Zero is broken down on the Dark Horse Comics website. The tracks were a big part of the writing process for Dwonch and McKinney and contain special relevance to the comic's story. To introduce the tracks, McKinney and Dwonch said: "I love lining up a stack of records that in some way remind and inspire me of the impending story at hand, and then spinning them loudly, as the keys get smashed. So, without further ado, here's a look at why we chose these ear-melters on our official Dark Horse Spotify playlist for Jenny Zero #1." The twelve chosen tracks are The Darkness', "One Way Ticket to Hell and Back," Madonna's "Into the Groove," Mega Colossus' "Atlas," Anthrax's "Earth on Hell," Faith No More's "Take This Bottle," The Pixies' "Gigantic," The Distillers' "City of Angels," 45 Grave's "Partytime," Heart's "Barracuda," The Pogues' "If I Should Fall From Grace with God," Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust," and David Bowie's "Suffragette City."

The first issue of Jenny Zero was recalled, not for objectionable content, but due to printing errors, so the release dates for every issue have been updated accordingly. Now, the first issue will be coming out on May 5, 2021; the second issue will release on June 2, 2021; the third issue will be out on July 7, 2021; and the fourth, final issue, will be in comic book stores on August 4, 2021.

The mixing of a variety of mediums can be a really fun, innovative, and marketable endeavor when it's done right. Though there have previously been comics that had whole musical scores made for them. Having a convenient playlist to jam out to while reading Jenny Zero feels like a fun little extra that helps the mini-series stand out even more than it already has in online news cycles. It will be interesting to see how intertwined the music is with the plot in this much-anticipated release from Dark Horse Comics.
