Val Chmerkovskiy may not have won the mirrorball trophy for Dancing With The Stars season 31, but he’s still the best ballroom dancer in his wife Jenna Johnson’s eyes. This season, Val was partnered with The Bachelorette star Gabby Windey, and the two were at the top of the leaderboard every week. It seemed obvious they’d make it to the finale, but their biggest competition, Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas ended up winning first place. Last season Jenna was the runner-up with her partner JoJo Siwa and the season before that, she came in second place with Catfish star Nev Campbell.

Jenna doesn’t care whether or not Val won DWTS season 31 because she’ll always see her husband as a winner. Jenna shared a tribute post for Val on Instagram, writing, “watching you shine this season has made me more proud than ever. You exuded light and sheer joy every time you took the stage.” Jenna shared that Val was by her side the past two seasons when she made it to the finale but walked away in second place and expressed what it’s like to be in his shoes, feeling that “heartbreak.” Jenna added, “Getting to see you remind all of us who the GOAT of competitive ballroom dancing is, was also a pleasure to watch week after week.

Val & Gabby Had A Very Good Chance At Winning DWTS Season 31

Jenna’s post received love from her fellow DWTS pros, Peta Murgatroyd and Lindsay Arnold. Former DWTS contestants Amanda Kloots and Nikki Bella also sent the couple love, along with DWTS judge Derek Hough’s finance Hayley Erbert. DWTS season 31 had some of the toughest competition in all 31 seasons. Even season 29 winner Kaitlyn Bristowe admitted she doesn’t think she would have won if she was a contestant this season. Luckily for Val, he has won the mirrorball trophy two times with celebrity partners Rumer Willis and Laurie Hernandez.

Jenna’s comments are no joke. Val is certainly one of the most talented dancers on the show and has had so many memorable routines throughout the seasons. He did an unforgettable routine to Cell Block Tango during DWTS season 23 and followed it up during the season 31 finale, performing a Freestyle to the song with Gabby. Charli has been competitive dancing since she was three years old, so it’s understandable why she did such a great job on DWTS and won the mirrorball trophy.

The TikTok star also had an amazing DWTS partner, with Mark Ballas being another one of the best pros on the show. With less competition, Val and Gabby may have won, giving Val his third trophy. Luckily, the DWTS pro seems set to return next season and will have another shot at becoming a three-time winner. Until then, he should celebrate how far he made it on DWTS season 31 and listen to what his wife told him because she’s right.
