Despite a scarcity of information with regard to the project, it appears that the upcoming Jeepers Creepers 4 is quietly progressing basing off of the recent comments made by returning cast member Gina Phillips. The actress who played Trish in the original is scheduled to come back to the franchise for the first time for a quick cameo since her appearance in the first film in the series.
The planned Jeepers Creeper sequel has already been in development even before the second movie from the series was released back in 2003. However, it was not really until 2015 that it had the structure needed to finally get into production with the green light from Myriad Pictures. The project, though, was ridden with problems even prior to filming. Just before it started principal photography in Canada, writer and director Victor Salvo's previous child molestation charges from decades ago once again came back to light resulting in a delay in production. Finally, earlier this year in February, shooting has finally hit the ground running and was reportedly wrapped up already by April.
Phillips recently sat down with Diabolique and talked about her much-anticipated comeback in the Jeepers Creepers franchise. Obviously, the actress was not allowed to give specific details as to what Salvo has in store for fans. But she did give a little bit of context as to what her role will be in the film's narrative.
“This is actually not my movie. It doesn’t have a lot to do with Trish. What I do is kinda… I haven’t been told specifically except don’t say much… [She pauses to think]… I am in it in order to launch what happens next.”
Furthermore, Phillips also said that the Jeepers Creepers 4 will explore its tie-ins with other properties in the franchise. With the use of flashbacks, there will be some threads of connections from past events that would have repercussions in the current narrative.
“Victor has written what happens from the second after the conclusion of Jeepers Creepers 3. I think that’s all I’m allowed to say about it but he wrote in such detail and he had a lot of flashbacks to what happened over the years that it made it very easy for me. I got to see what will eventually happen to the character and he put enough flashbacks in there that I got to see what happened to her over the last 15 years. Let’s just say, there’s more to come.”
It has been 14 years since we've last seen the Creeper and with the advance technology used in the movie industry, it will be interesting if there will be any notable difference in the look and feel of the fourth Jeepers Creepers film compared to its predecessors. Unfortunately, since production was shrouded in a cloak of secrecy, fans would need to wait until the film actually debuts to find out if the ancient creature is as scary as they remember him to be.
Jeepers Creepers 4 is scheduled to hit cinemas this coming U.S. Labor Day, September 1. And with just 3 months left for proper marketing of the film, it can be expected that additional details and maybe even a first-look will be dropping soon.
