The free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are accessible now, Electronic Arts confirmed. EA and Disney announced the Fallen Order upgrades ahead of Star Wars Day, promising a summer release that the developers at Respawn Entertainment clearly managed to uphold.

Such a reveal came several months after Respawn unleashed a Fallen Order update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that boosted the experience in many respects. Notably, the current-gen enhancements allowed the action-adventure title to target 60 frames per second across both consoles. Respawn didn't skimp on the improvements for resolution either; however, it's clear the Series X benefitted the most in this regard, evidenced by its Normal "non-performance" Mode that enjoys a dynamic resolution ranging from 1512p to 2160p. Still, the new upgrades managed to kick things up a notch.

The retailer leaks of a June 11 release date were correct: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players who own a copy of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order can now download a free upgrade. Those interested in picking up the title for the first time can do so digitally and at retail for $39.99. In confirming the news on its official website, Electronic Arts also provided an overview of what exactly the improvements entail. Players can anticipate much faster loading times, enhancements to 60fps performance, 4K resolution, HDR, and higher resolution textures. Interestingly, fans who own a disc version of Fallen Order on last-gen hardware but only have access to a discless PS5 or Series S can still receive a free upgrade by contacting EA support and validating their purchase. (It seems this may be the first instance of a big-name title allowing for such an upgrade.)

With regards to specific graphical settings, PS5 and Series X both include Performance Mode (ON) and Performance Mode (OFF) options. With Performance Mode enabled, Fallen Order targets 60fps at a resolution of 1440p. Performance Mode (OFF), on the other hand, hits 4K at 30fps. The Series S version features neither of these modes, as its performance remains locked on 1080p resolution at 60fps, according to the FAQ section of EA's post. In addition, fans will be pleased to learn that save data and Trophies/Achievements will carry over between generations.

This arguably counts among one of the more consumer-friendly upgrade options to date. For one, the native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions only cost $40. Especially worthy of note, though, is EA's willingness to work with PS4/Xbox One players who purchased Fallen Order's physical edition and now own an all-digital current-gen console. Again, it appears this may serve as the first example of a physical to digital upgrade path.

While fans rejoin Cal Kestis for another trek through the 2019 hit, Respawn is presumably hard at work on a Fallen Order sequel. Rumblings about a follow-up date back to December 2019 when a Respawn job listing hinted at a Fallen Order 2. Since then, EA CEO Andrew Wilson has made it clear the publisher hopes to further expand upon the franchise.
