Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director Kevin Smith announces that filming has finally wrapped on his long-awaited comedy follow-up movie.

Writer-director Kevin Smith announces that filming on the long-awaited Jay and Silent Bob Reboot has wrapped. Released in 2001, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the first cinematic entry centered on the exploits of Smith's stoner duo, who were first introduced in the director's debut feature Clerks. In the film, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) traveled to Hollywood to prevent their Bluntman and Chronic comic book from being made into a movie, encountering many strange and hilarious adventures along the way.

In the reboot, Jay and Silent Bob are once again out to stop Hollywood from exploiting their creation, as someone now wants to reboot Bluntman and Chronic. Recently, Smith revealed that a pair of surprise actors will play Bluntman and Chronic in the new film (Smith and Mewes themselves played the comic book superheroes in the first movie). Smith also just revealed that Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will reunite him with Rosario Dawson, who previously starred in the director's Clerks 2.

In another of his many social media postings, Kevin Smith has now revealed that filming has officially wrapped on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The film does not yet have a release date but Smith has indicated that it will come out sometime in Fall 2019. See Smith's latest tweet below:

In addition to Dawson, the cast of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot also includes prior Smith collaborators Jason Lee, Brian O'Halloran, Shannon Elizabeth, Frankie Shaw and Justin Long, as well as Smith's own daughter Harley Quinn Smith (who previously starred in her father's film Yoga Hosers). Wrestler Chris Jericho too recently joined the film for a cameo appearance. Other reported cast members include Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek, again playing themselves as they did in the original Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, together with Flash TV show cast members Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanagh. According to Smith himself, the movie will also feature a Captain Marvel shout out as payback for the Marvel movie shouting out Smith's own 1995 film Mallrats.

Indeed, it has been a long road for Smith to bring Jay and Silent Bob back to the big screen almost 20 years after Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Much has changed in those nearly two decades, and it will be interesting to see if Smith's brand of comedy still holds up in an era that in many ways is much more politically correct. No doubt, Smith will pack a lot of scathing Hollywood satire into Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, after so many years experiencing the ups and downs of the movie business.
