The Mighty Thor is set to return to the pages of Marvel Comics, just in time for her introduction to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder, as Jane Foster once again takes up the mantle to save Asgard from devastation in Jane Foster & The Mighty Thor #1. While Foster has recently been fighting with the power of the Asgardian Valkyior, it seems like Odinson is missing, and Jane is forced to risk her life again.

With the MCU's version of Jane Foster set to finally become the Mighty Thor in the MCU, it is no surprise that Marvel Comics is re-establishing that Foster is also the Mighty Thor in the comics. This is especially important in light of some MCU fans being confused as to why Jane is poised to become the next Thor. Thor is a mantle, and anyone who holds Mjolnir can be referred to as Thor.

In the comics, Jane Foster's relationship with Mjolnir has always been complex, as she first became the Mighty Thor when cancer was ravishing her body, and while Mjolnir helped give her power and strength, it also prevented her cancer medication from curing her in human form. However in the upcoming Jane Foster & The Mighty Thor #1 - written by Torunn Gronbekk (Punisher: War Journal, Wastelanders: Doom) with art by Michael Dowling (Black Cat, Amazing Spider-Man: Beyond) - Dr. Foster is forced to pick up Mjolnir once more, after she realizes that Odinson, the King of Asgard, is apparently missing. Not only is King Thor missing, but he is nowhere to be find during an incredibly critical moment, as the combined forces of Hela, Ulik the Troll, Enchantress, and other foes of the Golden Realm descend on Asgard to destroy it. Check out the textless preview pages Marvel shared below to see what is coming for the fearless and powerful Mighty Thor:

The preview pages shared by Marvel show some major hints as to the threat that the Mighty Thor and Asgard will face, with Beta Ray Bill approaching Sif the All-Seer on the Bifrost, as an army of dark elves are seen reflected ominously in her eyes. With King Thor obviously missing Sif, using her far reaching Seer powers, calls upon the spirit of Jane Foster and seemingly sends Mjolnir directly to Foster's New York apartment. Dr. Foster without hesitation, watched by her Valkyrie steed Mr. Horse, picks up Mjolnir, shattered in King Thor's recent battle with the God Tempest, and immediately becomes the Mighty Thor. Finally, the Enchantress is seen meeting with a mysterious and clearly dangerous masked person in a robe, presumably the "big bad" behind the assault on Asgard. While Marvel has not confirmed where King Thor is missing, there is a chance that he is still taking part in his multiversal war with Bruce Banner/Hulk, which will take place in May's Hulk vs. Thor: Banner of War.

While Jane Foster is amazing as Valkyrie, it also so awesome seeing her reclaiming Mjolnir and the mantle of the Mighty Thor, especially just in time for her on screen debut. Hopefully the Mighty Thor will be able to work with the Asgardian warriors to stave off the attacks by the Golden Realm's enemies, at least until King Thor returns in time for this summer's massive Judgment Day event.
