Marvel heroes are known for their awesome powers, and Thor ranks among the first in terms of strength, but not many fans know that Jane Foster, as the Mighty Thor, is actually one of the fastest heroes. Jane once performed a feat of speed that would literally leave Thor Odinson in the dust.

Jane Foster became the Mighty Thor when she picked up the enchanted hammer Mjolnir after Thor Odinson became unworthy during the events of Original Sin. While the decision to make Jane the new Thor caused quite a tumult among fans, this turned out to be one of the best storylines in the character's history. Not only Jane Foster proved to be worthy of the title of God of Thor and a stalwart defender of Asgard, but she also joined the ranks of the Avengers when the team was under Sam Wilson's leadership. During her time as an Avenger, however, Jane was caught up in the coup that made the United States fall under Hydra's control during the Secret Empire storyline.

When an evil doppelganger of Steve Rogers created by a Cosmic Cube put in motion the final stage of Hydra's plan to take over the United States, the Avengers and the other heroes arrived in Washington to try to stop him. However, "fascist Captain America" banished Jane Foster to another dimension, separating her from Mjolnir. In Avengers (2016) #9, by Mark Waid, Mike del Mundo, and Marco D'Alfonso, Thor finds herself in a faraway world, where she befriends a farmer called Hecla, who guides her to a device that could bring her back to Earth. However, the object is guarded by a tyrannical monster called Yod, who can summon and control lightning. During the battle, Hecla is about to be hit by one of Yod's lightning attacks, but Jane saves his life in the most epic way possible: catching the lightning with her bare hands before it can strike her friend.

This is an incredible moment, to which artists del Mundo and D'Alfonso pay proper homage with an awesome splash page. However, it is also an incredible feat. Lightning travels at an impressive 270,000 miles per hour, which means Jane had way less than a second to react to the attack and catch it in midair. Marvel's fastest hero, Quicksilver, once dodged a lightning strike from Thor's own hammer (in Mighty Avengers #34), but catching it requires a whole other level of speed. Thor Odinson can also fly and run incredibly fast, but his reaction time in battle is nothing compared to what Jane showed during her battle against Yod. Jane showed her incredible speed on another occasion too, when she, performed brain surgery on various patients at lightning speed, moving too fast for Doctor Strange to see and melting the scalpel with her movement, in Doctor Strange (2015) #18.

While Jane Foster's time as Thor may have not been too long, it was enough for her to show incredible feats of courage, strength, and also speed. Catching lightning in midair with her bare hands is something that not even Marvel's fastest heroes can achieve, and it makes Jane Foster the fastest Thor ever.
