Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

It's been revealed that actress Jamie Lee Curtis will be officiating her daughter's wedding dressed as the sorceress Jaina Proudmoore, from Blizzard's iconic MMORPG World of Warcraft. This news comes on the heels of big updates for the game itself; World of Warcraft recently revealed that cross-faction play would be coming to the MMO soon, drastically shaking up the lore and gameplay of the title.

Few would argue that World of Warcraft's impact on the video game industry has been anything short of monumental. It is often credited as having redefined the MMORPG genre, and it's still going strong today, despite facing stiff competition from other heavy hitters in the genre, like Final Fantasy XIV. The latter has famously reached success so staggering that developer Square Enix had to temporarily remove it from sale to prevent its servers from becoming overwhelmed. Luckily for MMORPG fans, Final Fantasy XIV went back on sale in January, and both it and World of Warcraft are going strong at the time of this writing.

As influential as World of Warcraft has been, however, one might not expect it to reach someone like Jamie Lee Curtis. The actress, known for her work in the Halloween franchise and 2019's hit murder mystery Knives Out, recently told Jimmy Kimmel in an interview (via Entertainment Weekly) that she would be officiating her daughter Ruby's wedding dressed as Jaina Proudmoore, a major character from the MMORPG. In the interview Curtis explained that the cosplay was picked out for her by Ruby and her fiancée Cynthia, but there may be some difficulty securing it in time for the big day; Curtis revealed that the dress is to be shipped from Russia, which could lead to supply issues given the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The invasion has left a significant mark on the video game industry as a whole, as numerous game developers have rallied to support Ukraine ever since the conflict started.

It's endearing to see a prominent actor like Jamie Lee Curtis go above and beyond for her daughter's wedding like this. Despite the strained history of its developer, which is still in the midst of a lawsuit with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, World of Warcraft can still play host to wholesome scenes like this. For instance, during an 80th birthday stream recently, elderly streamer WoWGrandma78 received a shoutout from CouRageJD, a prominent streamer whose involvement flooded the 80-year old WoW streamer's channel with subscriptions and donations.

Jamie Lee Curtis' wedding cosplay is a similarly heartwarming act, and will hopefully make her daughter's wedding that much more special. According to the actress, the wedding will be taking place in May. One hopes that the appropriate World of Warcraft attire will arrive in time for the big day.
