James McAvoy is an actor equally at home in an indie drama or a huge blockbuster, but how tall is he? James McAvoy made his debut in 1995 Scottish thriller The Near Room, starring alongside Adrian Dunbar and Andy Serkis, but going on to a run of supporting roles in films and series like The Bill, Foyle's War and Band Of Brothers. An early lead role came in the form of 2003's sci-fi series Children Of Dune, where he played Leto Atreides II.

The young star was soon appearing in a host of acclaimed dramas, including BBC miniseries State Of Play - which was later adapted into a movie of the same name starring Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck - and the British version of Shameless. James McAvoy also won acclaim for his turn in Irish comedy-drama Inside I'm Dancing (AKA Rory O'Shea Was Here). It was thanks to 2006 drama The Last King Of Scotland that McAvoy became noticed internationally, with co-star Forest Whitaker later winning an Oscar for his chilling portrayal of Idi Amin.

This extends to losing out on parts because he was perceived to be too short, and he even co-starred with an unnamed actress who made her displeasure with his height known before filming, making for an awkward working relationship. Still, that hasn't stopped James McAvoy having a run of great performances in the last decade, including a five-movie stint as Professor X/Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, starting with 2011's First Class.

James McAvoy had a host of roles showing his versatility, from a corrupt, drug-addicted cop in dark comedy Filth, Arthur Christmas in the animated adventure of the same name and the titular role in Victor Frankenstein. He got to display a dizzying amount of characters in M. Night Shyamalan's Split and its 2019 sequel. Between movies he's spent a fair amount of time in the theatre, performing the title roles in performances of Macbeth and Cyrano de Bergerac, and he most recently played the adult Bill in IT: Chapter 2 and Lord Asriel in TV series His Dark Materials.
