Marvel Studios sends James Gunn a sweet gift in celebration of the nearing The Suicide Squad's production start. It has been a tumultuous year for the director/writer. After unexpectedly getting sacked from helming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last year, he booked Warner Bros. and DC's second film for the Suicide Squad. Things make a more surreal turn when the House of Mouse announced that they are hiring him back.

Now, Gunn has projects in both DC and Marvel, squashing the idea of that there's bad blood between the two comic book brands. He's currently prioritizing The Suicide Squad which is set to begin principal photography soon (Gunn has been sharing photos of him with some of his cast members) in time for its 2021 release date. No word yet on when fans can expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as it was originally going to release next year, but with the film's script finished, not to mention the fact that Gunn pretty much has his cast intact, shooting can begin shortly after he finished his current commitment. As Marvel Studios wait for their time with the director, Kevin Feige and his team wished Gunn good luck on his upcoming endeavor.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Gunn shared a string of photos from Marvel Studios' "sweetest start-of-production gift ever" - a scrap book full of snaps of him while working on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The director also mentioned a note included, but he didn't post a photo of it. Instead, he simply revealed that the executives over at Marvel Studios are also excited about his work on The Suicide Squad. Check out the images below:

In the succeeding posts, Gunn reiterated how there's really no heated rivalry between Marvel and DC - at least when it comes to the people actually involved in making their movies. He also added that "Marvel & DC fans have a lot more in common than they do not," and just because someone prefers the other, that doesn't mean that they can't enjoy both franchise. There are still a few trolls in the comment section, but majority of the fans are behind the uniting message from the director which is always a great thing to see.

It's great to see the after a rocky year, Gunn is doing great. But it's also nice knowing that Marvel and DC have no problem with the current set-up with regard to the director, doing The Suicide Squad before returning to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. A friendly competition between the two companies will always be there - if anything, that will be good for the industry as a whole as both will be motivated to come up with unique and creative offerings for the movie-viewing public.
