It seemed like all hope was lost. After James Gunn was fired by Disney last year for a re-emergence of controversial tweets by bloggers, it appeared that no matter how much fans shouted and screamed Disney would stay firm in his firing. However, the biggest movie studio in the world has announced now that Gunn will, in fact, return to continue what he started and direct Guardians Of The Galaxy 3. The takes online were numerous and we've compiled some of the best ones we could find into a list just for you.

Thor Ragnarok Director, Taika Waititi

One of Gunn's biggest supporters throughout this entire process has been fellow Marvel director Taika Waititi, who has mentioned on Twitter many times that he thinks Gunn should be the one to helm Guardians of the Galaxy 3. He's also been rumored to be in line to replace Gunn for the movie, though he's started he wouldn't be interested in doing it. Now that his buddy is back on board, Waititi took to Twitter to crack a joke that he really wanted to direct the movie! Maybe they could work on it together?

The Man Himself: James Gunn

We couldn't put out this list without a word from the man himself. Shortly after the news broke, Gunn took to Twitter to send out a tweet for the first time since July 2018.

While the message is about what you would expect him to say, it does feel nonetheless very heartfelt and sincere. Disney does deserve credit for actually reversing a decision they made and this is a clear sign that fans' voices will not be denied when an entertainment company makes a wrong creative choice. We look forward to what Gunn will bring to us next with his favorite squad of losers. You know, people who lost stuff.

Nebula Brings The Feels

Out of all the Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula is one of the least likely to get sappy but the actress who portrays the cybernetic warrior was quick to bring the feels with a simple three-word tweet.

"We are Groot" was all that Karen Gillan needed to say to wrap up the rallying cry that several fans had been chanting for years across social media. Who knew that despite only having two unique lines of dialogue in the whole series, Groot would give us such an emotional phrase to band together on.

Wisdom From Voice Acting Legend Jim Cummings

Who would have thought that we could get such wise words from the voice of Winnie The Pooh on the James Gunn headline? Well, that's exactly what we got from voice actor Jim Cummings.

The voice of other characters like Darkwing Duck and Tigger was quick to point out that Gunn's patience, kindness, and sincere apology absolutely helped him in securing back his directing gig for the Guardians Of The Galaxy 3. Other public figures can take several lessons from Gunn's handling of the situation come to think of it.

Ant-Man Director, Peyton Reed

We're not gonna dive back into the debate about Gunn's firing, but if this did have to happen, then it's a good nice to see that other Marvel directors didn't shun him.

Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp, issued a simple tweet on the situation but a good one. Welcome back, James indeed to a job that was always should have been yours and never taken away from you.

Doctor Strange Director, Scott Derrickson

Sometimes you just need to scream from the heavens in absolute joy about a piece of news that comes across your social media feed. In this case, director of Marvel's Doctor Strange and the upcoming Doctor Strange 2 Scott Derrickson just let out a burst of emotion that many fans were feeling to the situation. Glory and Hallelujah indeed to a director who is sure to craft an excellent follow-up chapter to one of Marvel's most emotionally moving films, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.

One Man For The Job

When Gunn was fired months ago, tons of fans argued that it wasn't a big deal because Taika Waititi could come in to replace him with no issues. Waititi himself, however, said that he didn't want to do that. Without any clear replacement after that, Disney likely discovered that they painted themselves in a corner with such a rash decision.

As the Twitter user above shows, Gunn likely must have felt as Loki did in Thor: The Dark World. With nobody else to turn to, Disney returned to the man who made the D-list team of space misfits into one of the MCU's greatest successes.

Dave Batista Always Gets His Man

Dave Bautista has been in the headlines recently not for his role as Drax The Destroyer, but for calling out WWE Superstar Triple H. During his return promo, he demanded to "The Game" that he give him what he wanted. While it seemed like he wanted a match at WrestleMania 35, he really wanted James Gunn rehired!

Out of all his fellow Guardians, Bautista was the most vocal in wanting Gunn to be rehired. In fact, he went so far as to say he would quit if Gunn's script wasn't used for the movie. Thankfully that won't happen now and Drax can go back to being everyone's favorite invisible hero in the galaxy.

#RehireJamesGunn A Success

For those who don't know, Lindsay Ellis is one of the most popular video essay producers online and when the news broke that Gunn was fired, she was one of the loudest voices that wanted Disney to reverse their firing of the director. Well she and a lot of fans' efforts paid off as they no doubt had a part in this.

As she says in the follow-up to the original tweet, many are just happy to finally get some good news as there seems to always be a barrage of bad news when you scroll your social media feed. Make no mistake, today is a good day in terms of movies.
