Peter Safran and James Gunn's DC Universe plans will be revealed to Warner Bros. Discovery in two months. The new era for the DCU was announced in late October 2022 when it was revealed that The Suicide Squad director and producer tandem were hired to lead DC Studios. They officially began working on planning DC's future at the start of November, with Gunn cryptically teasing various DC characters on social media. There have yet to be any major announcements to signal what lies ahead for the DCU. Recent reports instead point toward James Gunn and Peter Safran still being in the planning stage for the franchise.

It has now been confirmed that the DCU's future plans will receive a huge update in two months. A report from The Wrap indicated that James Gunn and Peter Safran would share their long-term DC plans within the next two months. A fan then asked Gunn about the validity of this report, which the Peacemaker creator confirmed on Twitter was true - but with a caveat. Instead of a new slate of DCU movies being announced two months from now, the plan is for Peter Safran and James Gunn to share their roadmap for the future with Warner Bros. Discovery at that time.

The tease that James Gunn's DCU plans eventually being revealed is a reminder that the franchise needs to make a big change when it comes to talking about the future. When Warner Bros. and DC Films originally crafted plans for a shared universe, the announcement of multiple Justice League movies and solo films for every Justice League member came during a shareholder meeting. That meant that the information dropped online without any fanfare. Despite the excitement that the 2014 DCEU slate originally brought, the initial announcement tactic paved the way for future announcements to also come without getting the fans involved.

Considering James Gunn's history with Marvel Studios and seeing how feverish a major slate announcement can make fans, there is hope that he will borrow the more theatrical strategy to reveal his DC plans. It is unlikely that all of Gunn and Safran's plans will be able to remain a secret until an official slate reveal can happen. However, there should be some emphasis on giving fans extra reasons to be excited about upcoming DCU movies as they are announced. Doing so in a public setting can do that, and James Gunn has proven he can command a huge stage already.

When Will James Gunn's DCU Plans Be Officially Revealed?

If Peter Safran and James Gunn's DCU plans are revealed to Warner Bros. in early 2023, it is possible that an official announcement on what they are working on could come shortly thereafter. That said, James Gunn is still going to be working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 until May and there are no obvious spots to make such a grand reveal. Since there are also multiple DCU movies releasing next year, the best bet might be that San Diego Comic-Con delivers a DC's 10-year plan and a new slate. This would give Gunn a few months to fully focus on the DCU before making his plans known to the world and ushering in the future plans in an exciting fashion.
