New DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn launches a new social media profile by teasing Lobo with a comic image. The future of the DC Universe changed in recent weeks when it was announced that Walter Hamada was out at DC Films. Warner Bros. created DC Studios in its place and hired The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and Shazam! producer Peter Safran to co-run the newly formed studio. They are now in charge of crafting the DC Universe's future, giving every post that Gunn has on social media an extra sense of importance for fans eager to see what will come next for DC.

Now that Elon Musk owns Twitter, many have begun looking for other forms of social media to use just in case. This includes DC Studios head James Gunn setting up a new social media profile on Mastadon, and he did so by sharing an image of Lobo with the caption, "Glad to be here." The post immediately sparked speculation that Lobo is part of Gunn's plans for the DCU's future. He has not confirmed or denied that Lobo will be in a future project, but the caption teases the potential for the DC anti-hero to appear.

Who Is DC's Lobo & How Could He Appear In The DCU?

Lobo in DC comics

Lobo is one of DC's most popular villains/anti-heroes dating back to his debut in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo is the last known Czarnian and an intergalactic bounty hunter. He is ultra-violent and essentially immortal thanks to his Czarnian heritage. Lobo is strong enough to beat Superman in a fight in the comics, but he is also incredibly smart and cunning. He has both been an enemy of the Justice League and a partial member, but his loyalty is often attributed to who can pay him the most.

If James Gunn's Lobo tease is a sign that he is going to appear in the DCU, this could help revive an abandoned movie idea from the previous DC Films regimes. There have been attempts to make a Lobo movie dating back to 2009 with Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton previously intending to direct it, and Dwayne Johnson was even in talks to star before Black Adam. The movie's development was revived in 2016 and Michael Bay was then approached to direct it in 2018. Lobo never made any progress after this, but James Gunn might want to change that after all these years. His Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista even wants to play Lobo.

A solo movie for Lobo could now be one of the projects that James Gunn and Peter Safran greenlight at DC Studios. It might even be the secret project Gunn pitched to the studio before he got the promotion. However, they might also have ideas for how to incorporate him into other projects. Lobo could be the villain of Justice League 2 or Suicide Squad 3. He could even be the choice to square off with Henry Cavill's Superman in Man of Steel 2. There are a lot of possibilities for Lobo's DC future if Gunn's tease does mean something.
