James Gunn says that he will probably work with Chris Pratt and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast again in the DC Universe as he gears to wrap up his Marvel Studios stint with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As Gunn approaches the 10th anniversary of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, the filmmaker is set to end his Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogy with an emotional send-off to the original Guardians roster. After that, Gunn will exclusively work as the co-CEO of DCU with Peter Safran, where he could end up collaborating with his MCU actors such as Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista, among others.

Speaking with Empire in light of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's nearing release, Gunn opened up about the upcoming end of an era for him and the beloved cosmic heroes. He emphasizes how important his cast has become to him, adding that he will always be open to working with them again. Interestingly, he ends it with a tease that he'll be collaborating with some of them again in the DCU. Read his full quote below:

“This cast are like my family,” he says. “I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again.” He adds, laughing: “Probably at my other job.”

The Guardians Cast Would Be Perfect In The DCU

James Gunn DC Comics Elseworlds Movies

Gunn has a knack for working with the same people, especially those he has become friends with over the years, such as Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion. So, it isn't exactly surprising that he will be open to collaborating with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast again in the future, and since the DCU will keep him busy in the next several years, it makes sense that he will try to cast them in DC projects that he is currently working on. This doesn't mean, however, that every single Guardian will die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While a major death or two have been teased before, a talent can certainly be in the MCU and DCU simultaneously, and Gunn himself is proof of that.

What makes the Guardians of the Galaxy cast great for the DCU is the fact that their collaboration with Gunn before has proven to be very successful. They could take that chemistry in what is still a franchise in its early stages and help establish it for the long haul. The MCU is known for its relatable characters despite being superheroes, and the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy members are poster children for that. It's the one thing that the old DCEU struggled with, as several of them didn't seem to resonate with the audience as their MCU counterparts did.

Gunn is known to be a master planner, so his final comment about working with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast in the DC Universe is certainly intriguing. It may even be a clue that conversations about making this happen are already happening behind the scenes. Luckily, with the DC Universe slate going to be announced soon, the public may not have to wonder about the matter for too long.
