With the recent announcement of veteran Marvel Cinematic Universe director James Gunn taking on a leading role in the DC Extended Universe, Marvel fans are now poking fun at how they imagine Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is reacting to the news. Gunn has been working under Feige's MCU banner since 2014 when he co-wrote and directed the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. He followed this up with 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 while also directing this year's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.Despite becoming a household name among MCU directors, Gunn has also found success with his more recent works in the DCEU. During a brief stint away from Marvel in 2018, Gunn was hired by Warner Bros. to write and direct 2021's The Suicide Squad. Following its success, Gunn was green lit to develop a spin-off television series of the film titled Peacemaker for HBO Max. In October 2022, it was reported that Gunn was working on a new secret DC project, however with the recent announcement it appears that Gunn will be even more involved with the DCEU's future than previously thought.Related: What Is James Gunn's Secret DC Project? Even with the support that Feige has shown towards Gunn on his DC projects in the past, that did not stop Marvel fans from taking to Twitter and posting their wildest ideas on what Feige's reaction to the news would be. Poking fun at the idea of a Marvel/DC rivalry, fans seem to anticipate the idea of a hostile confrontation between the two. Check out some Tweets above:

Could Gunn & Feige Actually Make A DC-Marvel Crossover Happen?

James Gunn and Kevin Feige

All jokes aside, having Gunn and Feige both head the two biggest current comic book movie franchises could possibly pave the way to at the very least entertain the idea of a future DCEU and MCU crossover. While this may still be just a pipe dream, this news is as close to any that there could be for such a project moving forward. Considering that a major obstacle that would prevent a crossover from happening is studio rights, having the heads of said studios be two people who have a long history of working together would definitely not harm their chances. With that being said, both studios are probably ways away from even considering a crossover of this magnitude, and with DC still in the midst of restructuring the plans for their own universe going forward, that is probably for the best.

In the meantime, there are other questions to be asked on what can be expected of Gunn going forward. With him taking on a larger role with the DCEU, some are sure to wonder if fans seen the last of him in the MCU. Additionally, with him overseeing the production of DC's projects going forward, there is also the question of whether he will solely be taking on a producer role like Feige does with Marvel, or if he plans to still have a big role while in the director's chair. It will take time to see how things progress for either franchise going forward, but with someone who makes an impact on his respective franchises as much as Gunn does, it will be well worth the wait.
