James Gunn unveils his list of great action movies to watch during quarantine. For the past month now, people have been staying at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. With schools and several non-essential businesses closed in an effort to flatten the curve and stop the spread of COVID-19, people have a lot of free time on their hands and are looking for things to watch. It's for that reason Disney decided to release Frozen 2 on Disney+ early and bump up The Rise of Skywalker's digital release date. Hollywood studios have also made their recent titles like Birds of Prey and The Way Back on-demand much earlier than usual.
Always one to engage his fan base on Twitter, Gunn's provided his social media followers with plenty of viewing options over the past few weeks. He's already come out with a list of "quarantine & chill" recommendations and posted a list of 27 sequels he believes are better than the original film. Now, Gunn continues to provide audiences with movies to watch, focusing specifically on the action genre.

As one might expect, the list is a well-rounded collection of action classics (North by Northwest, The French Connection) and more contemporary titles (John Wick, Mission: Impossible - Fallout). If one decides to tackle Gunn's complete list, they could see how the genre's evolved over the past several decades. There's also some nice variety here, with sci-fi movies (RoboCop; Edge of Tomorrow), international features (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Oldboy), and Best Picture nominees (Captain Phillips; Raiders of the Lost Ark) highlighted. Gunn's followers are already pointing out notable omissions, meaning the list is even longer for those in the mood to marathon some of the best action movies out there.
Gunn's list may not include any superhero films, but cinephiles still have a bevy of great options to choose from and should be able to keep themselves busy. It'll be interesting to see if Gunn comes out with quarantine lists for any other genres, giving viewers of all tastes selections they can watch. Even if stay-home restrictions are able to be lifted in the coming weeks, there aren't any new movie releases planned until late July and live sports remain on indefinite hiatus.
