The latest video blog for Skyfall focuses on a certain "eye candy" element of the film, besides the new Bond Girls and Daniel Craig as agent 007: namely, the costumes (or, rather, James Bond's new suit).
An explanation for the logic behind Bond's new, refined wardrobe is provided by costume designer Jany Temime, who previously collaborated with director Alfonso Cuarón on the third Harry Potter flick (she also worked on subsequent installments), along with Children of Men and the upcoming Gravity. Here's the short of it: 007's gonna look good, during his 23rd outing on the big screen.
In the featurette, Temime also name-drops fashion designer/filmmaker Tom Ford (A Single Man) as the fellow responsible for producing Bond's suits in Skyfall. Ford is just the latest in a long line of classy names associated with the new 007 movie - joining the prestigious cast (Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes), Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Hugo), acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins (True Grit), and Sam Mendes (American Beauty) as the director heading the charge.
As was teased in the official Skyfall teaser trailer, the combined might of those aforementioned visual artists should result in one the most (if not the most) scenic Bond movies ever produced. Mendes' decision to stage the action scenes and set pieces against some truly beautiful landscape backdrops appear to make Skyfall a flick worth catching in the largest format possible - though, of course, there's no guarantee that the lovely imagery won't ultimately prove to be compensation for a lackluster storyline (early signs indicate that will not be the case, thankfully).
We will have to wait a while to find out if a James Bond movie directed by Christopher Nolan actually happens. Still, even if such a project never comes to fruition, at least Skyfall has the potential to be a satisfactory "replacement" (or something like that).
Skyfall opens in UK theaters on October 26th, 2012. It will open in the U.S. two weeks later, on November 9th.
