James Bond is the iconic 007 agent, but there are the other 00-agents who have appeared in the franchise over the years. Daniel Craig will be making his final outing as the elusive 007 in No Time to Die, and earlier this year the James Bond franchise made waves when it was announced that Lashana Lynch would be playing 007 in the upcoming Bond film No Time To Die, a move which sparked surprise (and some outcry) among fans. Many misinterpreted the statement to mean that Lynch is taking the role of Bond over from Craig, which is not the case.

At the end of Craig's last film, Spectre, James Bond quits working for MI6 and thus is relieved of his title of 007. When the films pick up in No Time To Die, it's only logical that another agent would take on the mantle of "007," which is what Lashana Lynch's character Nomi appears to be doing.

However, besides James Bond and Nomi, who are the other double-0 agents that have been featured in the Bond films? While none will ever be as well-known as the original 007, James Bond, there are still a handful of double-0s who have appeared in Bond movies over the years.

002

James Bond agent

So far there have been no 001s featured in the James Bond films, so the first 00 on the list is 002. 002 has appeared several times in the Bond films over the years under two different names. The first was an agent named Bill Fairbanks who was mentioned but not shown in the film The Man With the Golden Gun. The second 002 did not have a full name but did make an onscreen appearance. Glyn Baker played an agent named "John" (last name unknown) who makes a brief appearance during a training exercise at the beginning of The Living Daylights.

003

An unknown actor as 003 in the Bond film A View to Kill

Agent 003 makes an appearance (albeit a brief one) in the film A View To Kill, where Bond is sent to recover his corpse in Siberia. 003's real name was unknown, as is the actor who played him during his short stint onscreen. While other 003s have been mentioned in novels and video games, this single shot is the only glimpse of 003 that has been seen so far in the films.

004

James Bond 004

Similarly to 002, 004 is another one of the MI6 agents shown completing a training mission in The Living Daylights. His character remains unnamed, although he is played by actor Frederick Warder. 004 is killed while attempting to complete his training mission, falling to his death after his climbing rope is cut. His body is then tagged with the message "Death to Spies" written in Russian, which is later found by James Bond.

006

James Bond 006

By far the most famous 00-agent other than James Bond, MI6 agent Alec Trevelyan held the mantle of 006 and served as the main antagonist in the Pierce Brosnan film GoldenEye. Played by Sean Bean, 006 went rogue after faking his death, becoming the head of the Janus crime organization and attempting to steal a Russian satellite which could destroy the planet. He also had a personal grievance against Bond for not giving him time to escape from his initial "death" at the beginning of the film.

009

Yet another MI6 00-agent who met an untimely fate, 009 was an unnamed 00-agent who was killed while undercover as a clown in the film Octopussy. He was murdered by twins Mischka and Grischka via a knife in the back, and although his character name wasn't known, he was portrayed by stunt performer Andy Bradford.

0012

Last on the list of onscreen double-0 agents is 0012, who was briefly shown in The World is Not Enough. His name isn't revealed in the movie, but the novelization identifies him as Sam Johnston, and the most viewers see of him is a brief glimpse when Bond flashes his picture while on an investigation.

The 00 Agents Assembled

Thunderball female 00 agent

In addition to all of the individual agents previously mentioned, there have also been a few shots over the course of the Bond franchise that have featured meetings with more than a dozen agents. In both Thunderball and The World Is Not Enough meetings are held which show a number of unidentified agents, some of whom are women. However, because they're only fleetingly shown and not identified, it's difficult to associate a name and rank with each face shown.
