Jaimie Alexander says the reason she wasn't able to appear in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok was due to scheduling conflicts with her role on NBC's Blindspot. The actress first appeared as the comic book character Lady Sif in Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film, Thor. She reprised her role in Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World in 2013 and on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the series' first season in 2014, and then again during the show's second season in 2015. However, she's remained absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since.

Alexander landed the lead character Jane Doe in NBC's crime drama Blindspot in 2015, and the series has been moderately successful for the network and the actress. The show films in New York City and Alexander was knee-deep in production on season 2 around the same time that Thor: Ragnarok was undergoing principal photography on the other side of the world in Australia. Unfortunately, the schedules couldn't match up and, thus, Alexander wasn't able to reprise her role as Lady Sif, despite her initially teasing her involvement with the final installment in Marvel Studios' Thor trilogy.

Screen Rant recently questioned Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige about Lady Sif's whereabouts, and he was rather coy about her absence. Alexander, on the other hand, was more forthcoming with her answer. She spoke to Yahoo! Entertainment about the scheduling conflict ahead of Blindspot's season 3 premiere tonight, and she said that, although she wanted to reprise her role as Lady Sif for Thor: Ragnarok, she wasn't given sufficient notice to make it happen.

“I was asked, but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when Blindspot was gonna shoot — it was pretty much the same time. So there was a conflict there. I was hoping for more of a notice from [the studio] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing. They called and said, ‘Hey, by the way, would you come do this?’ I said there is no way I can make that work that fast. It couldn’t happen. They were on a different continent! So it was sad. I was bummed about it.”

Although Alexander wasn't able to return for the sequel, she's not harboring any ill-feelings towards the production team or Marvel Studios. In fact, she's excited to see the movie when it hits theaters domestically next Friday (Ragnarok released internationally on October 24). She said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing it. It will be nice to see all those great people in that movie. I’m super excited for it. I also heard that it’s incredibly funny which makes me really happy.”

Alexander's right about the movie being funnier than previous installments. It's something that has resonated well with critics and audiences alike, which is why Ragnarok's early reviews have been stellar so far. While chances of Thor getting another solo movie are relatively slim, perhaps there's room for Lady Sif to make reprise her role once again in the future - and she said she's more than willing to do that.
