Jacob Batalon wants to become the Hobgoblin in a future MCU Spider-Man movie. Batalon plays the character Ned Leeds, who first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. He also had brief roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, before having a bigger role in Spidey's second solo movie: Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Hobgoblin first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #238 in 1983, but the character has yet to be adapted for the big screen. The Green Goblin, on the other hand, has been adapted several times. Most recently, the Green Goblin appeared in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewhich won the Best Animated Feature award at the Oscars this year. Willem Dafoe played the character in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man before James Franco became the New Goblin in Spider-Man 3. This is the closest fans have gotten to seeing the Hobgoblin on the big screen, although Franco's Harry Osborn wasn't actually called Hobgoblin in the movie. If Batalon gets his way, however, fans could soon see the Hobgoblin in the MCU.

In our interview with Batalon, the actor explained his hopes for the future of his character. When he talked about the Hobgoblin, Batalon mentioned, "That just further validates my theory of Ned becoming Hobgoblin, but hey... But it’d be so great [if] they’re not going to want me to die. [I hope] they’re going to want me to stay on and be part of the Sinister Six. That’s just my theory."

Hobgoblin vs Spider-Man Marvel Roderick Kingsley

Introducing Hobgoblin has always been within Sony's power, but only recently did it again become possible for the Hobgoblin to appear in the MCU. Fans were devastated a month ago when it was announced that Spider-Man was out of the MCU, but all that changed this week. Just a few days ago it was announced that Spider-Man is back at Marvel, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man now able to appear in the MCU and in Sony's villain universe. However, it's been rumored that Marvel may have plans to write Spider-Man out of the MCU.

With Sony planning multiple movies based on Spider-Man's villains, it's certainly possible they could incorporate the Hobgoblin into one of their films. That being said, it's rather unlikely that they would choose the Ned Leeds storyline for their version of Hobgoblin. In the comics, Leeds' time as the Hobgoblin was a shorter storyline, with Leeds being brainwashed by Roderick Kingsley to take the fall for his crimes. Since Leeds doesn't really have any motive to turn against Spider-Man, it doesn't seem like the story that either Marvel or Sony would go for in a future Spider-Man movie. Fans can hear more Batalon when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits store shelves on Blu-ray & 4K next Tuesday, 10/1.
