Johnny Knoxville explains how Jackass 5 would look somewhat different from the previous Jackass films if they were to move forward with another installment. Having started out as a series on MTV in 2000, Knoxville and his friends made their long-awaited return to screens earlier this year for the fourth Jackass feature film, Jackass Forever. More than ten years on from the release of Jackass 3, audiences were delighted to see Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Jason 'Wee Man' Acuña, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Ehren McGhehey reunite for another round of ridiculous stunts and hilarious gags.

Alongside these returning fan favorites, the Jackass gang was joined by a handful of newbies as they were initiated into the group through a variety of wild stunts. Jackass Forever welcomed Sean 'Poopies' McInerney, Jasper Dolphin, Eric Manaka, Zach Holmes, Rachel Wolfson, and Compston 'Dark Shark' Wilson to the much-loved franchise, with these new faces having certainly held their own up against the experienced, original Jackass team. Despite introducing these brand-new faces, no plans have been announced for Jackass 5 at this point in time, however, Knoxville has now opened up about how a further installment could look different from previous Jackass films.

In conversation with Variety, Knoxville was asked whether he could see another Jackass film on the cards in the future, to which the actor confirmed that Jackass Forever was not definitively planned to be the last movie, many people simply took it that way. Knoxville then discussed how, if there were to be a Jackass 5, it would lean more heavily on the new cast, giving the older cast a chance to step back. The star then went on to discuss how a particularly bad injury from Jackass Forever led to his neurologist advising him to take a step back also. Check out Knoxville's full quote below.

We never said whether it was or wasn’t [the final film]. That got written somewhere and people ran with it. If we did continue, we would lean on the younger cast more and the old guys would take a little step back but still be a part of it. I would have to step back because my neurologist said I can’t have any more concussions.

Knoxville’s Jackass Forever Injury Was Pretty Terrifying

Giving true meaning to the phrase "don't try this at home," Jackass Forever saw Knoxville recreate a stunt that he had become somewhat known for, in which the star essentially goes head-to-head with a raging bull. Despite having previously escaped with just minor injuries, Jackass Forever's version of the stunt left Knoxville with a brain hemorrhage, which immediately led to a steep decline in the actor's cognitive abilities. The hemorrhage came as a result of a major concussion, as Knoxville also then entered recovery for a broken wrist and broken rib as a result of the intense stunt.

Given that Knoxville and the Jackass gang first made a name for themselves more than 20 years ago, it's certainly understandable that they now feel the time has come to take a step back, even more so for Knoxville, who suffered such immense injuries as a result of filming. While that's not to say that the gang won't partake in some less-intense stunts, as ringmaster of the whole Jackass circus, it's safe to say that Knoxville's days of bullfighting, and anything of the same caliber, are over. For now, fans will likely be relieved to hear that the star is prioritizing his health, and should Jackass 5 get the green light going forward, it will be interesting to see what Knoxville has in store for round five.
