Two stars of the upcoming Jackass 4 have been hospitalized only two days into shooting the highly-anticipated sequel. Known for stunts that are often extreme as well as ridiculous, the Jackass crew have been hurting themselves and their friends for two decades now without any signs of stopping.

The last theatrical entry in the hilarious stunt series arrived in 2010, making it a decade since fans have seen the likes of Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville, and Bam Margera together. Though on the surface it may seem like everything’s the same and the guys are still willingly causing themselves pain for the entertainment of others, there has actually been some major changes over the years. One such change is that Jackass 4 will be the first film in the franchise to not include Ryan Dunn. As fans of the series know, Dunn was tragically killed in 2011 in a car accident. His absence will definitely be felt in the new movie, and coping with that loss has been a major challenge for Margera in particular, who has struggled with drugs and alcohol ever since Dunn’s death. A big part of getting a fourth Jackass on track was ensuring that Margera could stay clean and sober.

Like most films currently in production during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there has been no shortage of delays. But now that production is underway, and a 2021 release date is confirmed, Jackass 4 is, at last, starting to feel real. Unfortunately for Knoxville and Steve-O, however, things might be feeling a little bit too real. According to a video update from Margera on the Bam Margera HQ website, both Knoxville and Steve-O were hospitalized after just the second day of production on the movie. Apparently, the two were jumping on a full-speed treadmill while wearing “band equipment,” i.e.: tubas.

One of the biggest concerns for many over Jackass 4 is that its cast members – while not exactly old, are far from the carefree years of their twenties. Injuries can now happen more frequently, and the risk of serious injury is arguably higher than ever before. This has not been an issue for Knoxville, who has previously stated that being older just makes the stunts and the inevitable pain involved all the more hilarious. Whether or not Knoxville still feels that way now, after being hospitalized so early on, remains to be seen, but given everything that the Jackass pioneer has been through over the years, he’s likely still laughing through the pain.

Hopefully, neither Knoxville nor Steve-O are seriously injured, and that they can get back to work as soon as they feel comfortable. It’s certainly not the first time that either Jackass star has been taken to hospitable over a stunt gone wrong, and it probably won’t be the last time, either. It’s all part of what makes the franchise so fun to watch, and as Jackass 4 is the first big-screen entry in the series since 2010, it’s almost certain that everyone involved is ready to take things to all-new levels of loveable lunacy.
