Prime Video reveals the long-awaited Jack Ryan season 3 release date. Based on the characters created by Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan premiered in 2018. The series began by introducing viewers to the titular CIA analyst (played by John Krasinski), showing what happens when he gets pulled away from his familiar desk job after he discovers a string of dubious bank transfers that lead to a much more sprawling plot. Although the most recent episode of the adaptation debuted all the way back in October 2019, the series has unveiled some big news during the extended break.

Back in May, it was confirmed that Jack Ryan would end after season 4. It was also announced that a spinoff starring Michael Peña was in the works. Peña, who will make his debut in the upcoming Jack Ryan season 3, will play Domingo "Ding" Chavez. In the Clancy novels, Ding is a key character that debuts in 1989 and goes on to appear in several stories. He's a big part of the return of the popular adaptation, which is only a few months away.

Jack Ryan season 3 will debut on Wednesday, December 21. All eight episodes will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, streaming exclusively on Prime Video. Along with Krasinski in the main role and Peña as a guest star, the cast includes returning actors Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly. Nina Hoss and Betty Gabriel, meanwhile, join the show in their respective roles as Alena Kovac and Elizabeth Wright. Check out the poster for the new season below:

During the events of the Jack Ryan season 2 finale, Krasinski's protagonist was seen exposing corruption within the U.S. Senate. In the upcoming episodes, he'll find himself as essentially a fugitive and wrongly implicated in a conspiracy that has left him out in the cold. Wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction he has uncovered, Jack goes underground. He moves through Europe, having to stay alive all while doing his best to prevent a massive global conflict.

It looks to be a busy season for Jack Ryan, even away from the promised propulsive plot. Despite the fact that its farewell has already been announced, the fact that there are still more episodes to come means that Krasinski's tenure as the classic Clancy character can wrap up on a well-planned note. The introduction of Ding is similarly encouraging, as Peña is a versatile performer known for everything from the action film End of Watch to his scene-stealing role in the Ant-Man movies. It indicates that the broader Ryanverse could go in an interesting direction.
