Jack Ryan Tries His Hand at Kidnapping in New Trailer

In the teaser for Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, the upcoming Amazon TV series based on the books, Ryan tries his hand at kidnapping.

A new teaser trailer for Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan has been released. The late Tom Clancy wrote novels about CIA agent Jack Ryan for 33 years. Along with the eight novels where Ryan is the main character, there are also two books about his co-worker John Clark, and 13 books about Ryan's son, who follows in his footsteps. Readers just can't seem to get enough of the wealthy and skilled CIA agent and his equally talented son.

Jack Ryan is so popular that five movie adaptations have been released by Paramount Pictures between the years of 1990 and 2014. Four different actors have played the character in these films - Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. Four actresses have also played his wife - Gates McFadden, Anne Archer, Bridget Moynahan, and Keira Knightley. Now the torch is being passed again, with the upcoming Amazon series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. John Krasinski and Abbie Cornish will be taking on the iconic roles, and telling a story from Ryan's earlier days in the CIA.

Now Amazon has released a new teaser trailer for the series, which will have a full first season release on the website for Amazon Prime members only in 2018.

In the trailer, a clip from the series is shown, with Ryan and another man eating at a table. The man is handcuffed to the table, and wants to know what the CIA wants with him. Ryan won't admit - or deny - that he is with the CIA. When the man asks how often Ryan kidnaps people off the street, he gets something of an unsettling answer. Ryan's an analyst and this is his first time. The whole scene, Ryan is calm and casual - coming across as far more experienced that he claims to be. From there is a montage of images that give nothing else away about the plot, including who it is that Ryan abducted, why he did it, or what an analyst is doing in the field in the first place.

Krasinski's age as well as Ryan being an analyst without field experience indicates that the series will take place near the start of his career. In the books, the character worked in finances, was a teacher, and then a consultant for the CIA before becoming an analyst and eventually advancing through the ranks. This also ignored the events of the most recent film - Jack Ryan: Shadow Pursuit - which is an original origin story for the spy.
