A new trailer for Amazon’s Jack Ryan series may be short on words, but it demonstrates just how committed the show will be to delivering moments of memorable action. It’s been a while since series star John Krasinski began his transformation from the lovable goofball Jim Halpert in NBC’s The Office to bearded man of action, but since his surprising turn in Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, he’s taken his career down a surprising new path, one that includes directing the incredibly successful horror film A Quiet Place, and, as everyone knows by now, suiting up as the latest iteration of Tom Clancy’s most famous character.

Amazon is riding high on the series, and it doesn’t even premiere until the end of August. But having been renewed for a second season already doesn’t mean the streaming portion of Jeff Bezos’ ever-expanding empire isn’t planning to make a marketing push ahead of the official premiere. And in keeping with the July 4th holiday, the powers that be at Amazon have seen fit to deliver a new trailer, titled ‘Presidents,’ which eschews character dialogue (save for voice overs from various presidents, naturally) for quick snippets showcasing what looks to be series’ commitment to explosive action sequences.

Accompanied by yet another remake/remix of ‘All Along the Watchtower,’ the trailer delivers a quick look at what viewers can expect when the eight-episode first season finally drops. From the look of things, Jack Ryan will see the title character go from his desk job as a CIA analyst to various parts of the globe, as there’s several shots of Ryan being shot at or causing things to go boom in a number of diverse locales. If nothing else, Jack Ryan certainly spared no expense with regard to making the first season into a true globe-hopping adventure.

So far, the series looks like it will deliver what fans of the character and of the Clancy franchise are craving, as showrunners Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland appear to have a solid handle on how to make the most of Ryan’s “everyman” likability as well as his penchant for getting himself into and out of hot water with a mix of brains and brawn. They’ve also lined up a strong supporting cast, which includes The Wire alum Wendell Pierce and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

It would seem as though the stars have aligned for what will be the biggest premiere on Amazon Prime this year, as Krasinski’s profile could not be bigger, thanks to the success of his clever horror film. It will be interesting to see just how big of a splash Jack Ryan makes when it finally hits the streaming service.
