On October 21, Tom Cruise will be returning to theaters in the second installment of the Jack Reacher franchise, which is based off the novels by Lee Child. The first film, which starred Cruise as the titular character, was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) and grossed nearly $220 million worldwide on a reported $60 million budget. That showing, plus solid reception from fans and critics, was good enough to get a sequel green-lit, and gave Tom Cruise another butt-kicking franchise.
The sequel, titled Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, is directed by Edward Zwick (who directed Cruise in The Last Samurai) and is based off the 18th book in Lee Child's franchise. So far, the trailers and promos that have been released for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back showcase what looks like non-stop action, and a decades old military conspiracy that only Jack Reacher can get to the bottom of. While Jack Reacher co-starred Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), the sequel brings Cobie Smulders (The Avengers) into the fold. Paramount certainly has high hopes for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and will be hoping the action sequences shine in all the glory of IMAX.
With that in mind, IMAX has released an exclusive trailer (above) to continue generating excitement Jack Reacher's second big screen outing. And this latest trailer does not hold back on the action, witty lines, or Tom Cruise punching people - a lot of people. IMAX has also unveiled a new poster for Never Go Back that you can check out, below:
While an official budget for the sequel has yet to be released, from the looks of things, it has taken a bit of a hike over the first film's reported $60 million budget. The less than two minute trailer gives us enough to let us know we should be expecting a flurry of explosions, car chases, and no shortage of bullets flying in the sequel. Further, it looks like the writers are giving Tom Cruise as many flashy lines as he can handle. From "I'm the guy you didn't count on," to "Maybe I rip your arm off, beat you to death with it," and "What you hear is excitement," Jack Reacher looks to have plenty to say (usually without a smile, or any emotion).
If you were a fan of the first film, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back appears to be delivering everything from that and more, and promises to be an enjoyable popcorn flick, with some exciting action sequences that might be best enjoyed on the biggest screen possible - say, IMAX. And if you didn't see the first movie, but are a fan of Tom Cruise hitting people - even through windows - Jack Reacher: Never Go Back looks to be your cup of tea as well. And we only have a few more weeks to wait.
Jack Reacher 2: Never Go Back arrives in U.S. theaters on October 21st, 2016.
