J.K. Simmons has expressed his excitement to work on Justice League and future Batman films alongside Ben Affleck. Simmons will be making his DCEU debut as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League this November. Directed by Zack Snyder (with Joss Whedon handling reshoots and post-production), Justice League is the fifth installment of Warner Bros' DCEU. Simmons will be starring alongside Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg) to help save the world from the villainous Steppenwolf, played by Ciarán Hinds.

Commissioner Gordon, while not a superhero himself, has grown over the years to become one of the more popular DC characters, especially among mainstream audiences. In the live-action world, Commissioner Gordon has been played by Neil Hamilton and Ben McKenzie on television. On the big screen, he was portrayed by Pat Hingle in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher universe in the late 80s and 90s. However, it was in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy in which Commissioner Gordon, this time played by Gary Oldman, really received mainstream recognition.

Commissioner Gordon made his debut as an ally of The Dark Knight, making him one of the most important Batman supporting characters. So, it's good news when Batman's crime-fighting ally expresses his excitement to work on future Batman and Justice League films. When asked if Simmons was excited to work alongside  Affleck, in an interview with Red Carpet News TV, he had this to say:

HBO's OZ with JK Simmons

"Oh absolutely, yeah. And I worked with Ben a couple of years ago on The Accountant and I met him years before that. So yes, I'm excited to work with him and hope to work with him on the other side of the camera at some point, as well. He's obviously a talented filmmaker in addition to being the movie star that he is and the good actor that he is, which I think will continue to develop as we see Batman and Commissioner Gordon not be spring chickens and we get into some interesting stories about these weathered kinds of guys."

For many months now, the DCEU has been plagued with controversy, including reports and rumours surrounding Affleck's future as the Caped Crusader. So, Simmons discussing how excited he is to work together with the actor as their respective DC characters can be seen as reassurance that Affleck will indeed be reprising his role. It is interesting to note that earlier in the interview, Simmons mentions that his role in Justice League will be "don't blink and you'll miss." One can't help but wonder if what we've seen so far from Commissioner Gordon in the trailer is all there is to him in the upcoming movie event. If that's the case, it would surely be disappointing, especially considering the hype surrounding Simmons when he was first cast in the role.

Having said that, there is no official confirmation on Warner Bros.' end regarding Simmons' screentime in the movie, and Simmons himself has mentioned that he has not seen the final product of Justice League. It looks like we'll have to wait until November to find out. As for Simmons' excitement to continue playing Commissioner Gordon, it's safe to say fans are equally excited to see the Oscar winner in as many DCEU movies as possible.
