Content Warning: The following article contains spoilers for the FXX show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

With its highly-anticipated 16th season still in the works, fans of FXX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are undoubtedly rewatching some of their favorite episodes. The long-running sitcom is known for its popular setting, Paddy's Pub, which has endured the gang's wild antics for years.

Not all of the best episodes of the show take place in the shoddy bar, though, with some of the most memorable ones happening far away from the familiar location. From the local water park all the way to the cliffs of Ireland, there are incredibly entertaining, hilarious, and wacky episodes that thrust the gang and audiences beyond the bar's four walls.

“The Gang Goes To The Jersey Shore” (Season 7, Episode 7)

When Dee and Dennis want to relive their idyllic summers spent along the Jersey shore, they drag the rest of the gang to the popular spot and promise that they'll have a great time. They all soon find that it's not quite how the pair remember it, though, with the entire stretch of the beach closed due to a toxic spill and used needles scattered all around.

Three iconic moments happen in New Jersey: Charlie's night under the stars with the Waitress, Frank and Mac's misadventures with rum-ham, and Dee and Dennis' cringeworthy ride on the drop tower. It's easily one of the most unforgettable episodes from the sitcom.

“The Gang Hits The Road” (Season 5, Episode 2)

Dennis, Mac, and Frank in The Gang Hits The Road in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

One of the group's first trips outside of Philly happens after Dee gets herself a new car. The gang insults Dee even more than usual, bringing that same chaotic energy they have in the bar on the road to the Grand Canyon. Although they never actually make it that far, they do manage to stop by a messy market where they buy several impractical items for the road trip (including Dennis's French press).

It's arguably the episode that starts Charlie's intense fear of ever going outside of the state, as every time they have to travel after that, he requests to be knocked out. Fans also learn about his bizarre experience with eating stickers when Mac makes him try a pear for the first time.

“McPoyle Vs. Ponderosa: The Trial Of The Century” (Season 11, Episode 7)

The Lawyer and Dee in court in Always Sunny.

The Lawyer makes a rare appearance for "the trial of the century" (at least according to Mac), which draws the entire gang into a courthouse with an unamused judge. Charlie works with Uncle Jack to prove that Pondy didn't spike the milk at Maureen's wedding, while Dennis is just trying to get the judge to see he doesn't have to pay alimony anymore.

Charlie makes one of his funniest mistakes in the trial when he invites a bird expert to testify, believing that he can somehow communicate with the McPoyle's bird. The characters are clearly out of their element in the court, which results in some gut-busting situations and a surprisingly positive outcome.

“The Gang Gets Analyzed” (Season 8, Episode 5)

A season 8 fan-favorite episode underscores how Dennis, Mac, Frank, Charlie, and Dee have absolutely no idea what therapists do. They harass and bully Dee's therapist because they believe it's her job to help them decide who should do the dishes. In the process, audiences get a comical insight into their minds.

Each member of the group sits down with the incredibly kind therapist and shows how they've misunderstood what the sessions are for. The worst but most hilarious part is they actually seem to make some progress, but in the end, they just want to know about the dishes! It's likely their last time going to a psychologist's office, as they're not exactly the type to seek healthy ways to deal with their issues.

“The High School Reunion” (Season 7, Episode 12)

The gang clinking beers in the parking lot in It's Always Sunny.

Some of the worst parts of the gang’s personalities on IASIP are emphasized in the two-part high school reunion episodes from season 7. They're all desperate to prove that they're better than everyone else, even though they're almost immediately kicked out by the "cool kids."

The two consecutive episodes are the perfect mix of cringe comedy and sidesplitting visual humor, in large part thanks to the seemingly elaborate dance number the group has prepared towards the end of the event. After painful wedgies, Dennis's threats with his tools, and way too many beers, audiences can't be blamed for just being happy that it's over by the time the Waitress comes around.

“The Gang Beats Boggs” (Season 10, Episode 1)

Charlie sharing a beer with Boggs in It's Always Sunny.

The gang takes the stereotype of the annoying airplane passenger to a whole new level when they try to beat Wade Boggs' supposed world record. To do so, they have to drink more than 70 beers in a single flight to Los Angeles. Mac predictably takes it too seriously and starts acting as the commissioner, going so far as using the button that calls the flight attendants as his personal signal to bring more beer.

The episode highlight's the group's unbelievable ability to feel no shame in public, especially as they become drunker over time. It's also impressive that almost the entire event takes place on a plane, even if they obviously should've been kicked out or arrested for their actions.

“A Cricket's Tale” (Season 12, Episode 9)

Cricket with an imaginary love interest in It's Always Sunny

Cricket gets his well-deserved time in the spotlight when viewers are thrust into his world for an entire episode. Although his tale begins at one of the lowest points in his life, a chance encounter makes it seem as if he could finally be getting back on the right track. Not only does he attempt to reconcile with his family, but he also finds love.

Of course, things aren't at all what they seem and the show returns to the status quo in the most hilarious (and slightly disturbing) way possible. Cricket may never be able to go back to being Matthew Mara, but it's refreshing to not see him being bullied in Paddy's Pub for a change.

“The Gang Buys A Boat” (Season 6, Episode 3)

Charlie on a boat in It's Always Sunny.

Viewers know things are about to go wrong when Dennis, Mac, and Charlie start shopping around for a "P. Diddy-style shrimping vessel." The run-down and unsafe boat they end up with somehow becomes even worse after Dee and Frank's 'improvements,' with Charlie hilariously diving to recover any trash the pair throw out into the sea.

The main problem is the same as it always is between the group, as they all want different things. Mac and Dennis want to live the "high life" and party with other sailors, Charlie wants to find treasures and catch shrimp, Dee wants to dance, and Frank just wants to hang out. If Paddy's Pub could sink, it probably would have just as fast as that boat did.

“The Gang Goes To A Water Park” (Season 12, Episode 2)

Mac and Dee in swim gear in It's Always Sunny.

In what is often considered one of the best recent episodes of It’s Always Sunny, the gang wreaks havoc on a local water park full of clueless kids and their neglectful parents. Mac's "triple-laminated" ticket gets him and Dee stuck in a kiddie slide where they spend most of the day, managing a ridiculous pileup of children that keep coming down the tube.

Charlie and Frank have a much better time riding every slide in the park, at least until they get to the very last one. Of course, Dennis would have never met someone like Abby in Paddy's Pub, with the villainous character besting the bar owner at every turn.

“The Gang Carries A Corpse Up A Mountain” (Season 15, Episode 8)

Charlie crying as he kneels under the rain in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The latest season of IASIP delivers one of its darkest moments yet, with the climax happening during its final episode where Charlie is left alone carrying his father's corpse up a mountain in Ireland. The entire gang rallied around him initially, but slowly left one by one as things became too difficult.

His moving monologue under the rain probably caused some fans to shed a tear or two, especially for those who understand how painful the situation is for Charlie. The buildup to that moment was flawless, as the group's antics in Ireland made the surprisingly heartfelt conclusion possible. It's their best out-of-the-country trip yet, and hopefully not the last.
