Developer Hazelight's latest game, It Takes Two, continues the studio's tradition of creating games that are focused on co-op game play. But if a player doesn't have a friend on hand, can they play the game solo?

It Takes Two follows Cody and May, two humans caught in a magic spell that has turned them into dolls. Only by confronting their fractured relationship and working together can they find a way back to their normal selves. It Takes Two is the second game to be released from Hazelight. The studio's first project was A Way Out, which put players in control of two convicts embarking upon an escape from prison. The game was co-op only, but it was made easier (and cheaper) for gamers to play together with EA offering a "Friend's Pass."

Like A Way OutIt Takes Two is a co-op only game; there is no way to play solo. Thankfully, like A Way Out, EA is offering a Friend's Pass feature for It Takes Two. As explained on EA's site, Friend's Pass allows the owner of a copy of It Takes Two to invite a friend to play with them through online co-op, even if that friend does not own a copy of the game. Friend's Pass is included as part of It Takes Two at no additional fee, though console players will need to have either Playstation Plus or the Xbox online network to use the online co-op. Friend's Pass is available on all platforms, with cross-gen play supported, but not cross-platform. And if players are lucky enough to live with a fellow gamer, couch co-op is available as well.

Using Friend's Pass in It Takes Two is fairly straightforward but does take a few steps. Whichever player does not own the game needs to go to their console or PC's store front and find and download the It Takes Two Friend's Pass. Once installed, the player who owns the full game (Player 1) can invite their friend from the main menu of their copy of It Takes Two.  Progression will be saved to Player 1's account, but if Player 2 purchases a full game copy for themselves, all progress will carry over to their purchased copy, as well as unlocking all It Takes Two chapters Player 2 completed through Friend's Pass.

It's nice to see Hazelight and EA continuing to support their co-op only games by providing affordable ways for players to play together, especially in a time when great co-op games are a way for people to stay connected. After all, it's unfortunate if a player is stopped from experiencing a game because their friend can't afford the cost at that particular moment. It Takes Two is about two people working together, and the developer is making it that much easier for players to do so in real life as well.
