It Takes Three is now available to watch in digital format, and here’s who plays who in this romantic comedy and where you’ve seen them before. A genre that doesn’t seem to lose popularity is that of romantic comedies, and while not all tell compelling stories and often fall into clichés, they continue to be stories that the audience loves to watch. Among the most recent rom-coms to be released digitally is It Takes Three, which tells a familiar story in a modern setting.

Directed by Scott Coffey, It Takes Three (originally titled Rhino), tells the story of the coolest, most popular guy in high school who asks the new girl out, but she’s not interested as she can see through his popularity and good looks. In order to catch her attention, he enlists the class “nerd” to take over his social media to add substance to his style and get his crush to go out with him – of course, although this may sound harmless, it will have some major consequences in the personal lives of all those involved in this web of lies. It Takes Three is a modern adaptation of the 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand, with the name of one of the main characters being a wordplay on Bergerac’s name and others named after their counterparts of the source material.

Jared Gilman plays Cy Berger (the equivalent of Cyrano de Bergerac), the class “nerd” who helps the popular guy by giving him material for his social media to make him look more interesting and more in tune with the interests of his crush. Jared Gilman made his big-screen debut in 2012 in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, where he played Sam Shakusky, and in 2014, he played Fred’s grandson, Michael, in Michael Radford’s Elsa & Fred.

David Gridley plays Chris Newton (Christian de Neuvillette in Cyrano de Bergerac), the popular, coolest guy in school known for his “hi-ya!” videos online and who has a crush on the new girl. When he finds out that his crush’s interests are the complete opposite of his, he asks Cy to pose as him on his social media so he can go out with her, but everything will get complicated quite fast. David Gridley played Allen in The DUFF and appeared in the TV series Army Wives and Guidance, and he played SN Henry Bell in The Last Ship.

Aurora Perrineau as Roxy

Unlike Chris, Roxy is more into “art, reading, women’s rights”, and as Cy is into almost the same things, Chris uses him to catch her attention and get her to go out with him, but she seems to always look through Chris’ looks and games. Aurora Perrineau played Bianca in Pretty Little Liars, Margo in Chasing Life, Shana in Jem and the Holograms, Giselle in Truth or Dare, Tanya in When They See Us, and Dani Powell in Prodigal Son.

Mikey Madison as Kat Walker
