Beverly Marsh is the sole female member of IT's Losers' Club, and has so far been played by no less than four different actresses onscreen. In addition to being the only girl in Derry, Maine's boys club, she's in some ways the most important member of the group. In the book and miniseries, it's Bev that possesses the skills to use the slingshot against Pennywise. It's also Bev's encounter with the cascade of blood all over her bathroom that cements the Losers' Club's ability to combat Pennywise's dark powers as a collective.
Of course, there's also a much more controversial scene in the IT book where the rest of the Losers "bond" with Bev in a way that viewed through just about any conventional lens is quite disturbing. Anyone familiar with IT's history knows full well what happens in that scene, and why there's no chance it'll ever be adapted. Still, it's an uncomfortable section of an otherwise terrific book, and most King fans have been able to accept or move past it in order to enjoy the rest of the story.
Controversy aside, Beverly Marsh is one of the best characters in one of King's greatest novels, and has proved equally as memorable on the big and small screens. Here's every actress who played, as the rest of the Losers affectionately call her, Bev.
Emily Perkins - IT (1990)
Canadian actress Emily Perkins played Beverly Marsh as a kid in the 1990 IT miniseries adaptation. She could be argued as the standout among the child Losers' Club actors, but they're all quite good in their roles, and compare wel to the kids from the 2017 movie. Perkins went on to star in the cult classic werewolf movie Ginger Snaps, and play popular recurring character Becky Rosen on Supernatural.
Annette O'Toole - IT (1990)
Annette O'Toole played the adult version of Beverly Marsh in the 1990 IT miniseries. O'Toole has an extensive resume, both in movies and on TV, including playing Martha Kent on the Superman prequel series Smallville, after having previously played Lana Lang in Superman 3. She was also a regular on Nash Bridges.
Sophia Lillis - IT (2017) & IT Chapter Two (2019)
Sophia Lillis is still quite early in her acting career, and playing young Beverly Marsh in IT 2017 was both one of her first roles and the role that put her on the map. Since IT, Lillis played the lead in Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, one of the title characters in the surreal horror film Gretel & Hansel, and the young version of Amy Adams' character in the HBO series Sharp Objects. That last one is interesting, as Adams was a common fan casting for adult Beverly Marsh in IT Chapter Two. She also starrred in the Netflix series I Am Not Okay with This alongside IT co-star Wyatt Oleff.
Jessica Chastain - IT Chapter Two (2019)
The only Oscar nominee to play Beverly Marsh so far, Jessica Chastain assumed the role of adult Bev for IT Chapter Two. Chastain was the other popular fan casting for the role, and that worked fine, as she had an existing relationship with director Andy Muschietti from starring in his prior film Mama. Chastain counts among her most famous movies Zero Dark Thirty, The Help, Molly's Game, and The Martian.
