So did the trailer reveal new details about how this entity became the eponymous It? In the opening scene for the IT Chapter Two teaser trailer, an adult Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain) revisits her old Derry home. She is greeted by a seemingly friendly old woman, Mrs. Kersh, whose name might ring a bell to fans of the 1990 miniseries. Beverly walks around the home and even finds the old poem that Ben wrote for her. While serving tea, Mrs. Kersh's behavior becomes more peculiar. "No one who dies here ever really dies," she says about Derry before tending to cookies in the oven. It's then that Beverly takes a look at Mrs. Kersh's family photos on the wall where she sees a man who closely resembles Pennywise the Clown.

It Chapter Two Pennywise Old Photo

Mrs. Kersh proclaims that her father moved to Derry and joined the circus. The photo (above) is presumably a young Mrs. Kersh alongside father. Does this photo reveal new details about Pennywise's origin? In short, the answer is no. The photo, along with Mrs. Kersh and the entire home, is just an illusion to trick Beverly. She left Derry to live with her aunt in Portland after her dad died. Her old home hasn't been lived in for decades. Pennywise uses Mrs. Kersh as a disguise to get to Beverly in the location that undoubtedly still haunts her.

With that said, IT Chapter Two will more than likely delve into the true origin of Pennywise. In the original novel, Pennywise was an ancient alien that could shapeshift into any form. The entity has been around for centuries wreaking havoc on the living. There were rumors that a scene from the first film that provided insight into Pennywise's past but it was ultimately cut. The photo in the teaser could be confusing in terms of It's origin but it also leads viewers to believe that the answers will come to light.
