IT Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti has confirmed the horror movie sequel will have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Released in September 2017, the first IT movie was a surprisingly huge box office smash hit, even for a film based on one of Stephen King's best-known and beloved novels. The film only adapted half of King's source material, though, and left the door wide open for a sequel to follow. Needless to say, Warner Bros. was quick to green-light a followup in the wake of IT's boffo opening weekend.

Chapter Two, like its predecessor, was directed by Muschietti and written by Gary Dauberman. The sequel picks up 27 years after the first movie (so, around 2016), as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård) emerges from his hibernation cycle to begin feasting on the residents of Derry, Maine once again. Muschietti introduced the actors playing the now-grown Losers' Club members in the sequel at SDCC last year, and even showed off some proper footage. He's now confirmed he'll be attending this year's Comic-Con festivities, too.

Muschetti took to his Instagram account today to announce his plans to bring new IT Chapter Two footage to ScareDiego at SDCC 2019 on Wednesday, July 17. You can check out his post in the space below.

For those unfamiliar: ScareDiego is a relatively newer SDCC event (it kicked off in 2016) that takes place on Preview Night and spotlights upcoming horror movies from WB and New Line Cinema. Back in 2018, for example, both IT Chapter Two and The Nun had a presence during ScareDiego, as did The Curse of La Llorona and this month's Annabelle Comes Home (which was announced at the event). It's reasonable to assume the IT sequel won't be the only WB/New Line horror film highlighted at this year's ScareDiego either. Indeed, the studios also have The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep scheduled for November, followed by The Conjuring 3 in September 2020. Chances are good that both films will reveal something new at SDCC (be it actual footage, official artwork, or both), along with whatever Muschietti decides to bring to promote his latest spooky offering.

IT Chapter Two has been widely-anticipated since it was announced, and its presence at ScareDiego should only help to further hype the sequel. Those at SDCC may also get to see some of the film's cast in person, including actors like James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain (both of whom have attended SDCC in years past). Considering the IT Chapter Two teaser trailer only dropped at the start of May, there's a fair chance WB and New Line will even hold the full-length trailer back to premiere at ScareDiego in mid-July. Either way, fans will be getting something IT-related to busy themselves with at the event, ahead of IT Chapter Two hitting theaters at the beginning of September.
