NVIDIA’s much-rumored RTX 4070 Ti graphics card has seemingly popped up on a popular benchmarking website, notching up scores that suggest it could be faster than AMD’s RX 7900 XTX. The RTX 4070 Ti is expected to be one of the more affordable cards in NVIDIA's RTX 4000 lineup that was announced this September. The first set included only the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080, but the company is also expected to launch the top-of-the-line RTX 4090 Ti at some stage next year. NVIDIA's reportedly also working on the more budget-friendly, less capable RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti.

The RTX 4070 Ti was recently listed on the popular benchmarking site Geekbench (h/t Benchleaks), where it notched up a score of 214,654 in the OpenCL test. As pointed out by VideoCardz, that's not only 45 percent higher than the score racked up by the 3070 Ti, but it is also 2 percent faster than AMD's latest flagship, the RX 7900 XTX. However, it is common for NVIDIA cards to score higher than similarly-powered AMD cards on OpenCL, meaning the 4070 Ti may not actually be faster than the RX 7900 XTX in real life.

AMD cards generally perform better with Vulcan API, and since no Vulcan test scores are available for the RTX 4070 Ti for now, it is difficult to compare it with the RX 7900 XTX. Another point to note here is that the 4070 Ti listed on Geekbench was clocked at 2,730MHz, which is higher than its expected boost clock of 2,610MHz, suggesting the tested card was an overclocked unit rather than a stock one.

Either way, these are all synthetic benchmarks, meaning they may not be indicative of real-world performance anyway. Additionally, Geekbench results can also be faked relatively easily, so take these results with a pinch of salt for now.

In terms of what's already known about the RTX 4070 Ti, it is expected to be the exact same card that was originally unveiled as the RTX 4080 12GB. That means it should come with the AD104 GPU and have 7,680 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus. In addition, it could also come with a 2.3GHz base clock and a 2.6GHz boost clock.

A recent leak also revealed that it will come with dedicated Ray Tracing and Tensor cores, DLSS 3 and G-SYNC support, PCIe Gen 4 connector, DirectX 12 Ultimate, Vulcan RT APIs, and Vulcan 1.3 and OpenGL 4.6 support. It will also support DisplayPort 1.4a and HDMI 2.1a output up to 4K at 240Hz or 8K at 60Hz, with DSC and HDR. In terms of its probable launch date, online rumors suggest that NVIDIA could announce the RTX 4070 Ti on Jan. 3 at CES 2023 in Las Vegas before making it available for purchase on Jan. 5.
