Turning Red features a boy band known as 4*Town, and one of its members has some uncanny similarities to BTS' Park Jimin, with the group's fans into believing it's him. 4*Town seems to be a mashup of heartthrob bands from throughout the decades like the Backstreet Boys and the more recent K-pop sensation BTS. Many members of the ARMY believe that the member in question, Tae Young, is a clear nod to BTS by the creators of Turning Red.

Turning Red follows Mei Lee, a 13-year old girl from Canada who struggles with the social and familial expectations that many teenage girls do. On top of that, though, she also occasionally turns into a giant red panda. In order to rid herself of this curse, Mei must perform a ritual on a specific night, one that just so happens to also be the night that her favorite band 4*Town has a concert in Toronto.

Similar to Mabel's favorite band in Gravity Falls, 4*Town is a mashup of the stereotypical boy bands that were seen all throughout the early 2000s. Each member seems to be a reference to a different band, with Tae Young clearly representing a member of BTS. Fans of the band specifically believe that Young is meant to be Jimin, as the character and the K-pop idol share several key features and personality traits.

In the promotional art and trailers released so far, Tae Young can be seen with pierced ears, painted nails, and shaggy blonde hair, all things that his real-life counterpart Jimin has donned at some point. The biggest similarity, though, is Tae Young's slightly crooked front tooth. This is an iconic feature of Jimin, a trait that is beloved by many in the BTS ARMY. Furthermore, in the character's official bio, it states that Tae Young loves animals, another trait he has in common with Jimin. These theories surprisingly have precedent. Turning Red is a Disney film, after all, and the studio has already referenced the band in other projects, such as Eternals. It's also frankly just smart for a movie targeted at a younger, female demographic to incorporate references to the biggest and most beloved band in the world right now.

Jimin may not be the only BTS member that Tae Young is referencing, though. According to another theory, Tae Young may actually be an homage to another BTS member, V. V's real name is Kim Taehyung, which sounds similar to Tae Young. BTS fans have been quick to notice that V and Jimin have a very close friendship, so Tae Young being an amalgamation of these characters may be a reference to the pair's relationship. There is actually some strong evidence for Young being a BTS reference, as Billie Eilish (who did the theme for No Time to Die and later worked on Turning Red) and FINNEAS actually have hinted at the possibility. In a promotional interview (via Youtube), the musicians confirm that 4*Town is based on existing boy bands, meaning that one of the bands could easily be BTS. While it could be a coincidence, it definitely seems like Turning Red's Tae Young is at least partly based on BTS' Jimin.
