Following reports that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a new Daredevil series, a big question is whether or not Charlie Cox will be returning to the role of Matt Murdock. While it remains to be seen if the new series will be a full reboot of the Man Without Fear's story or a continuation of the original Netflix series, recent MCU projects and comments have increased the likelihood of Cox's return. Here's what's known about the potential of Charlie Cox suiting up once more as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.

According to a new report, a new Daredevil show is coming to Disney+. While the details and exact nature of the show are scarce beyond Marvel hiring Covert Affairs duo Matt Corman and Chris Ord to write and executive produce, it's certainly an exciting development for audiences of the series that originally aired on Netflix for three seasons. Having been one of the streaming service's most popular series, Daredevil saw Charlie Cox starring as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day who used his heightened senses to go out at night as a vigilante protecting the streets of Hell's Kitchen. Daredevil often crossed over with the other Marvel shows as well including the team-up series The Defenders. While all of Netflix's Marvel shows were canceled with the dawn of Disney+ in 2018, Cox did return as Murdock in the MCU proper with a brief cameo in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Homerepresenting Peter Parker who desperately needed some legal council. Likewise, Daredevil's primary villain Wilson Fisk was featured in Marvel's Hawkeye series with Vincent D'onofrio reprising his role as New York's Kingpin of Crime.

Considering both of these recent appearances, the odds are strong that Charlie Cox will return for the new Daredevil series in development for Disney+. While Cox coming back is technically still unconfirmed, recasting Daredevil after these cameos wouldn't make much sense. Likewise, a return is also supported by recent comments made by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about Cox as the MCU's Daredevil. "If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen," he said.

Disney can only win by keeping Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock. Even if Marvel Studios decides to retcon or reboot Daredevil's story rather than continuing what was seen in the three seasons produced by Netflix, recasting would be ill-advised given the strong support Charlie Cox has received from audiences while playing the Man Without Fear. Regardless of the form the new Disney+ Daredevil series might take, Cox's portrayal was iconic in the same vein as Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man or Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It would be very hard to find an actor who could bring Matt Murdock to life as well as Cox has.

While it's rumored that Daredevil will appear in She-Hulk (as well as Echo), it's exciting that a new series for the Man Without Fear is on the horizon. Again, Cox's return has yet to be officially confirmed, though it would be extremely surprising if Marvel Studios were to recast Matt Murdock with another actor. Whether the new Daredevil series is a reboot, a fourth season, or something in between, the probability is high that Charlie Cox will be donning the red suit once more in the MCU.
