The Amazon Halo fitness trackers are great for all-day activity and sleep tracking, but are they designed to be waterproof? As fitness trackers/smartwatches keep maturing and getting better, there are certain features that have become expected. People want a wearable that can monitor their exercises and activity, keep tabs on their sleep, monitor their heart rate, and even measure their blood oxygen levels.

Another important factor is waterproofing/water resistance. Fitness trackers and fitness smartwatches are often exposed to the elements more than other gadgets. They're strapped to your wrist during sweaty workouts, intense rainstorms, and while by the pool. In these situations, it's critical to have some kind of waterproof rating to keep the tracker/smartwatch protected.

Thankfully, this is something that is present on both the Halo Band and Halo View. According to Amazon, both of its Halo trackers have water resistance up to 50m. Amazon says this allows the trackers to "be used for shallow water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean and can be worn in the shower." This is a fairly standard level of water resistance for a fitness tracker. Amazon isn't breaking any new ground here, but it's also delivering waterproof protection that's expected of a fitness tracker. Whether you're using your Amazon Halo on a rainy run or tracking swimming lessons, it has the necessary waterproof rating to keep it safe.

Other Things To Know About Amazon Halo's Waterproofing

That said, there are some finer details about the waterproof rating that are important to keep in mind. For starters, Amazon warns not to use the Halo Band or Halo View, "in a sauna, diving in the ocean, or during other activities involving high velocity water or submersion below shallow depths." Amazon also notes that the Halo's water resistance "might decrease as a result of normal wear." This is true of water resistance on any device. The more you use a smartwatch or fitness tracker — and the more often it gets wet — the more likely it is for that protection to degrade over time.

In the event that you do get your Amazon Halo tracker wet, Amazon recommends some basic care instructions. Any water on the Halo tracker can be wiped away with a soft and dry lint-free cloth. It's also important not to charge the Halo tracker until it's dried completely. Amazon further urgers users not to submerge their Halo in other non-water liquids, such as drinks, oils, lotions, etc. Lastly, while the Halo Band and Halo View are waterproof, their included charging clip is not. There's no water protection for the charger of any kind, with Amazon noting that it isn't "waterproof, sweatproof, sweat resistant, or water resistant."

At the end of the day, a lot of this just comes down to common sense. If you have your Amazon Halo outside in the rain, in a pool, or near the lake, it's OK to get it wet. Simply dry the device off when you can, try not to submerge it too often, and it should keep on working without any issues.
