Superhero Tony Stark a.k.a. The Invincible Iron Man may frequently find himself joining forces with the likes of gods and aliens from outer space, but there is no team-up that could have prepared the founding Avenger for his alliance with the fabled King Arthur of Camelot.

Iron Man initially encounters Arthur's Knights of the Round Table in 1968's Iron Man #150, when the armored Avenger and the villainous monarch of Latveria Doctor Doom are sent back centuries in time to the kingdom of Camelot by vengeful Latverian scientist Gert Hauptmann. While Doom immediately chooses to antagonize the group, Iron Man opts to take a much calmer path. Brought before the Lord of the Round Table, King Arthur himself, the great ruler and his various subjects are clearly astounded by the state of the art mechanics of Stark's advanced superhero armor. Though these two mysterious travelers present Arthur with a potential risk to his thriving kingdom, the costumed tourists are welcomed by the king as guests.

Stark's sinister companion Doctor Doom has a mission of his own to fulfill. Doom takes leave of King Arthur's castle and ventures outside castle territory seeking the assistance of the king's sister, the notorious witch Morgana (or Morgan) Le Fay and her magic. King Arthur was nearly slain by his dear old sister's powerful enchantments on several occasions in the past, only to be saved by his mystical sword Excalibur. Doom, a gifted sorcerer himself, hopes to utilize Morgana Le Fay's formidable skill of sorcery to release his gypsy mother Cynthia's soul from hell itself. Upon finding Le Fay, Doctor Doom agrees to eliminate King Arthur in exchange for the witch's assistance in helping free his mother.

Iron Man Camelot

Realizing the danger of Doom connecting with Morgana, Arthur tasks Iron Man with apprehending the Latverian. Commanding Morgana Le Fay's forces of the dead, consisting of the slain victims of King Arthur and his mighty blade, Doctor Doom leads a large scale assault on Camelot. Iron Man leads the opposing forces of King Arthur and charges against the highly driven Doom and his massive army, who remain alive and breathing after countless blows, given that they are now immortal corpses. Seeing no end in sight for the battle, Tony questions the limits of Doom's power, which ultimately leads Iron Man to the fortress of Le Fay herself. After taking down Morgana's deadly hawk Accolon, Iron Man's arrival forces Arthur's sister to depart her post, taking the highly effective army of the undead with her.

Though centuries from home and thoroughly out of his element, Iron Man proved himself a valuable asset in helping King Arthur and his forces overcome the sorcerous might of Morgana Le Fay. In his own way, Doctor Doom also triumphed - though Le Fay didn't free his mother, future stories saw her take the Latverian dictator under her wing as a magical protege, massively increasing his power. Whether in cementing Iron Man's idea of himself as a true hero or vastly enhancing Doctor Doom's skillset, it was an adventure that changed both armored geniuses forever.
