Warning! Spoilers for W.E.B. of Spider-Man #3 by Marvel Comics below

Spider-Man just had a repeat of one of his saddest Marvel Cinematic Universe moments, as Iron Man just admitted he doesn't trust the hero in a new preview of W.E.B. of Spider-Man #3. After Peter Parker and his fellow students at the W.E.B. facility accidentally turned off the power of part of Manhattan while trying to stop the Green Goblin from stealing information in a cyberattack, Tony isn't impressed when he meets with Peter after the incident.

In the MCU's Spider-Man: Homecoming, one of Peter's most teachable moments came when Tony Stark made the young hero give him his advanced suit back. Spider-Man was reckless while going off-script to take down Adrian Toomes in an incident nearly leading to people aboard a ferry getting killed. Without Iron Man's intervention, Peter could have accidentally caused serious injury and death to the passengers. A disappointed Tony Stark chewed out Peter for the near-fatal incident and took his suit back - telling him, "If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it." The encounter helped Peter mature as a hero and further showed him, with great power comes great responsibility.

In a new preview of W.E.B. of Spider-Man #3 by Kevin Shinick, Alberto Alburquerque, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC's Travis Lanham, Tony Stark confronts Spider-Man after learning about the cyberattack and part of New York City's power getting shut down in the ensuing battle. Iron Man tells Peter that he can't leave him alone with something happening and tells the heartbroken hero, "clearly, you can't be trusted!" Tony tells Parker that until he can prove otherwise, he needs to know where he is at all times.

Parker and the rest of his W.E.B. teammates are placed under strict surveillance to prove they can be responsible. However, unlike the MCU, where Iron Man reprimanded Peter by taking his suit, he sends the teen heroes on a private jet to France - wanting them to oversee the completion of a new W.E.B. facility. As the other youngsters take in the sight of the Eiffel Tower, a depressed-looking Peter sits in his seat, shaken up from his meeting with Stark.

In both W.E.B. of Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peter deeply cares about Tony opinion of him - as he views the hero as both a mentor and a father figure. Stark is the one person whose opinion matters most to Parker, so getting chewed out and be told he can't be trusted after the incident with the Green Goblin, has got to make him feel quite glum. Hopefully, like the MCU, Spider-Man and Iron Man's relationship is eventually strengthened by Peter's misguided actions. W.E.B. of Spider-Man #3 is in comic book stores next week!
