The MCU Can Finally Solve The Biggest Iron Man Mystery Now

Iron Man left various mysteries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are still waiting to be solved, and one of the biggest ones can finally be solved in the Multiverse Saga. Tony Stark/Iron Man is the superhero that kicked off the MCU as it’s now known, and along with Captain America, he led the original Avengers team, so he was key in shaping this connected universe. However, Iron Man’s MCU history also left a bunch of mysteries that weren’t solved while he was still alive, so now Marvel has to find ways to finally provide answers.

As the leader of the Avengers, Tony Stark turned a high-rise building complex in Manhattan known as Stark Tower into the main headquarters of the team, renaming it Avengers Tower. However, following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers relocated to the Avengers Compound, and it was only casually mentioned at some point that Tony sold Avengers Tower, but the identity of the new owner wasn’t revealed – but now thanks to an Easter egg in the TV series Loki and the introduction of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) and his variants, the MCU can finally solve the mystery of who bought Avengers Tower.

One Kang Variant Might Have Bought Avengers Tower From Tony Stark

Loki was key in setting up the multiverse and various concepts related to it, and it saw the God of Mischief defying the Time Variance Authority alongside his variant, Sylvie. At one point, Loki was pruned by the TVA and sent to the Void, a point located at the end of time where the TVA sent everything they pruned, and this place is guarded by a trans-temporal entity named Alioth. The Void was packed with Easter eggs, as it is full of objects and places from other universes, and among them was Avengers Tower but with a completely different name on it: Qeng Tower.

In the comics, Qeng Tower is owned by Qeng Enterprises, as Stark Industries sold Avengers Tower to them. Qeng Enterprises’ CEO is Mr. Gryphon, one of Nathaniel Richards/Kang’s many variants, who as a consequence of a glitch in the timestream, was split apart into different versions of himself, and one of those versions was trapped in the early 21st century, held back by a firewall of time. Richards created his own dynasty and took the identity of “Mister Gryphon” and became the CEO of Qeng Enterprises. Now, Mr. Gryphon is briefly seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s mid-credits scene featuring the Council of Kangs, so even though his timeline was pruned, he could have ended up in the main one, thus buying Avengers Tower (again).

What The MCU Has Revealed About Avengers Tower

Stark Industries acquired a high-rise building complex to turn it into the first completely clean energy-powered skyscraper in Manhattan, as it was powered by an Arc Reactor. Following the Chitauri invasion in The Avengers and the formation of the team, Tony transformed Stark Tower into the Avengers headquarters and adapted it to the needs of each team member, but after Ultron’s attack, Tony relocated the team to the Avengers Compound. Sometime in 2015, Tony sold Stark Tower and the new owner kept the tower’s appearance with the Avengers logo on it for a couple of years, but by the summer of 2024, the tower had gone through an extensive renovation and redesign, and it now has a lounge and garden area right in the center. However, the MCU hasn’t revealed who bought Avengers Tower, and theories have gone as far as to suggest names like Norman Osborn and Reed Richards, but the real answer might be a lot more complicated.

What Mr. Gryphon Buying Avengers Tower Means For Avengers 5 & 6

The reason why the MCU hasn’t revealed who bought Avengers Tower yet could be that it’s keeping it for a big reveal in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The aforementioned post-credits scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania showed that Kang’s variants are preparing to attack the Avengers and more, and it would be shocking if the current superheroes learned that a Kang variant had been close all this time and keeping an eye on them. Mr. Gryphon could become one of the most dangerous enemies the Avengers and company can encounter on Earth, more so as he’s now part of a bigger plan along with his many variants. Of course, Mr. Gryphon’s presence would force Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars to explain why Gryphon’s other timeline was pruned, which could add to how threatening and calculating he really is.
