It seems G4 host Olivia Munn has curried no small amount of favor with the Geek Gods, as Complex reports that after her role was cut from Iron Man 2 due to a tonal shift, Jon Favreau called her back into re-shoots as a completely different character.

Check out what Munn had to say:

"Jon Favreau called and was like, 'I've got good news and bad news: This is what's happening in editing but we all really like you.' Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included."

Munn describes her initial participation as being "lighthearted and comedic," and was told that the editing process had proved they were making a darker film than originally anticipated. I don't know if this makes anyone else significantly more excited for Iron Man 2, or if that's just me, but I find this to be welcome news - even though I'd already been anticipating a darker movie than the first. Confirmation is always nice.

So Olivia Munn beats Chris Evans (aka Captain America) to the 'portraying two Marvel movie characters' punch. The teasing bit is, we don't know who she's playing!

Knowing Kate Mara (We Are Marshall) has a cameo in the film (but not as long-term Stark girlfriend, Bethany Cabe), has presented fans with puzzle enough. Hearing that a character that lent itself to the lighter side has been cut and replaced by one that doesn't, is going to generate a whole new set of flowcharts.

At least Munn seems to realize how fortunate she is - she's not just in Iron Man 2, she gets to be in Iron man 2 twice! Even if the first role was cut, she still had the experience of playing a Marvel character and hanging out on that set - twice.

When asked what she would have done if her role had been left on the cutting room floor, Munn replied, "I would've started crying." No one would have blamed you, Olivia, you lucky duck.

So let the speculation begin: Who do you think Olivia is playing in Iron Man 2? Which character do you suspect got cut?

Iron Man 2 comes out May 7th.
