With the release of some Iron Man 2 posters over the last few weeks (and a new one yesterday) which focused on our favorite armored heroes, we finally have a new one sheet coming from WonderCon which focuses on the sequel's new leading lady, Black Widow.
When Scarlett Johansson was cast as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, there was a lot of concern coming from fans who thought she didn't look the part or match the character from the books. When photos hit the net of her sporting red hair, those concerns dropped quite a bit, dropping even more when we got our first look at her in costume as Black Widow.
So, she's nailed the look, but while the poster below of Scarlett Johansson certainly looks enticing, it doesn't mean too much to me unless her character speaks Russian in the film. From a brief clip of her speaking in her normal (non-Russian) voice in the latest TV Spot, many are concerned over how the character will be treated. I have a feeling she speaks both American and in a Russian accent in Iron Man 2 depending on when she's undercover as a spy or not.

In the books, Natasha Romanoff is initially an enemy of Iron Man (her first mission in the US involved her assassinating him) but defects to the United States from the Soviet Union. She starts with freelance work for S.H.I.E.L.D., the organization introduced in the first Iron Man movie and led by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character. Eventually, she becomes a full-fledged agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and works alongside The Avengers, meaning Scarlett's multi-picture contract will definitely see her have at least a part in Marvel Studios' team-up film.
Whether Black Widow's recruitment into S.H.I.E.L.D. would occur in Iron Man 2 or not was a question possibly answered in the trailers as one of the quick shots seemed to hint at her sporting the group's logo on her left arm. There were no scenes of her talking at all in the trailers which caused fans to question how the character would be treated in the film, especially since Mickey Rourke went all out to learn and speak Russian for his character, Whiplash.
Again, I'm still holding out hope that Scarlett does have at least the accent in the film(s). We already suffered through something like that with how the character of Colossus was (mis)treated in the X-Men movies.
What do you think of the poster and character?
