Iron Fist Set Photos Show an Injured Danny Rand

Iron Fist - Bloody Face

Only time will tell if Marvel and Netflix's winning streak will continue, but they're off to a good start so far with well-received seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Luke Cage hits at the end of September, and if the trailers are to be believed, it'll be a fantastic addition. Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, will round out the impending four-way Defenders team-up. His own solo season is filming now for release sometime in 2017.

Details are slim on the plot of the series, but set photos depicting star Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) on the streets of New York in ragged clothes suggest an origin story. In the comics, the rich heir to the Rand fortune returns from an unfortunate family trip to K'un L'un with a mystical power. When Rand returns to New York, he'll be greeted by an impressive supporting cast, featuring the likes of Jessica Henwick, who is set to appear as martial artist Collen Wing, while Carrie-Anne Moss is reprising her role from Jessica Jones as cutthroat lawyer Jeri Hogarth. has posted set photos from a recent shoot on the streets of New York. These raise a number of questions, as they depict Danny Rand on a street corner, grasping his side with a bleeding right hand -- an ironic state considering his powers.

Marvel's Iron Fist coming to Netflix in 2017

Could this scene be from a pre-powers flashback scene? Maybe the blood on his fist isn't his, and this is a "you should see the other guy" scenario? Has Danny lost the power of the Iron Fist? There is certainly a precedent for this in the comics. Junzo Muto, the leader of the Hand, once defeated Danny and stole the power for himself. Considering the heavy involvement of the Hand in the second season of Daredevil, it is certainly feasible that a plot along these lines may be recreated for the show.

One thing's for sure, while Danny will surely be able to combat the immediate problems presented in his first season, the lingering threats against these vulnerable, street-level heroes is only growing. Season 2 of Daredevil illustrated that one superpowered man can only stretch himself so thin before he needs backup. Finally seeing The Defenders come together next year promises to be a real treat, but like The Avengers, this will likely be bolstered by our chance to know the individuals before we meet the team.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. Iron Fist and The Defenders arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
