Iron Fist Season 2 May Introduce New Female Villain

Iron Fist

An Iron Fist season 2 character description suggests that the Marvel/Netflix series will be introducing a new female villain in the mix, with the list of possibilities including Tanya Adrian aka. Lady Gorgon. Iron Fist season 1, of course, featured a female antagonist of its own in the form of Madme Gao (Wai Chin Ho), a member of the clandestine ninja organization known as The Hand, who first made her debut in the Marvel/Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil season 1. After menacing Danny Rand (Finn Jones) for a good chunk of Iron Fist's freshman season, Gao went off the radar and subsequently resurfaced as one of the main baddies in this summer's The Defenders crossover event.

Although Gao (seemingly) perished with the other four "fingers" of The Hand during The Defenders, Iron Fist season 1 also setup another female antagonist for season 2; namely Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup), who was shown plotting her revenge against Danny with the latter's old comrade from K'un-Lun, Davos (Sacha Dhawan) near the conclusion of the season. While Iron Fist season 2 showrunner Raven Metzner - who is taking over from season 1 showrunner and series creator Scott Buck - will no doubt pick up that narrative thread, it's not unreasonable to assume that Danny will be facing some new enemies this time around, too.

THS has gotten ahold of an Iron Fist season 2 character description for an individual that is being referred to as "Tanya Parker", leading the site to speculate the the role in question here is really that of Tanya Adrian aka. Lady Gorgon. The site acknowledges there are certainly other possibilities for the role in question (like, for example, the character Black Mamba), but Lady Gorgon is their best bet at the moment. You can read the actual casting call below and decide for yourselves:

[TANYA PARKER] (late-20’s, open ethnicity) As a freelance covert operative, Tanya has carried out many high-level missions.  A chameleon adept at playing roles, Tanya inhabits the “part” that best fits the mission. SERIES REGULAR

First introduced in comic book form in Punisher War Journal Vol. 2, #20 back in 2008, the Lady Gorgon character is a member of The Hand and was famously hired by the villainous Jigsaw/Billy Russo to kill Frank Castle/The Punisher. Ben Barnes made his Marvel/Netflix small screen debut as the Billy Russo character in The Punisher season 1 this year and has since completed his transformation into the disfigured Jigsaw. However, if "Tanya Parker" is indeed Lady Gorgon, then it's unlikely that she will have any ties to Barnes as Billy Russo, seeing as The Punisher TV show tends to avoid connections to other Defenders TV series whenever possible.

The Lady Gorgon character would provide an organic way for Iron Fist season 2 to incorporate The Hand back into the mix, even though The Defenders seemingly left the organization in shambles with its top leaders all dead. Some MCU fans have no doubt gotten their fill of The Hand at this point, considering the central role they played in not only Iron Fist season 1 and The Defenders, but also the back-half of Daredevil season 2. Still, it would arguably be strange if the street level superheroes of New York (like Danny Rand) were to never encounter anyone from that group again, given how widespread their influence and underground empire was established as being in Phase 1 of the Marvel/Netflix television slate.

With production on Iron Fist season 2 set to get underway next week, additional details - including, a casting announcement for the "Tanya Parker" role and more details on who, exactly, they are - should be arriving sooner than later now. The possibility of a cool new villain, plus a fresh showrunner at the helm and confirmation that Misty Knight (Simone Missick) is joining the fun this season, is reason enough for now to be hopeful that Iron Fist season 2 marks an improvement on its not so beloved predecessor.
