The full powers of Danny Rand are on display in a new trailer for Netflix's Iron Fist season 2. It's no secret that the first season of Iron Fist came as a disappointment for many. However, with a new showrunner guiding the series, there's plenty of optimism that season 2 can right the ship. One of the big focuses has been the improvement of Finn Jones in the leading role, not only from a character perspective, but also (and maybe more importantly) as a fighter. After having a surprisingly little amount of action in the first season, what is coming next doesn't want to make that mistake again.
There's not only Danny Rand in season 2, but Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) also returns. And after a fan-favorite pairing with Misty Knight in The Defenders and Luke Cage season 2, Simone Missick joins this season to give everyone more Daughters of the Dragon team-ups. The threat, though, is Davos (Sacha Dhawan) becoming the Steel Serpent, and he goes head-to-head with Iron Fist in the new trailer.
Netflix released the new trailer for Iron Fist season 2 this morning, just a few weeks ahead of its early September launch. The trailer is heavy on action and any problems Danny had in regards to his chi are gone, as his glowing yellow fist is featured often. The crux of the trailer, and likely the season, is the fight against Davos, who also has a glowing fist of his own this time around. All of this and more can be seen in the trailer featured at the top of this post.
This action-heavy trailer is much more in line with what many expected the first trailer to be like. Since the first was a shorter Iron Fist trailer compared to this, it is nice to see Marvel finally show off what is coming next. By the early looks, Iron Fist season 2 certainly has the potential to outdo its preceding season, even if that isn't a high bar to surpass in the eyes of many. The willingness to embrace the fighting but also comic book elements like the mask (even if it's just for a flashback) should make fans of the comic version of the character happy.
When it comes to the story on display, Danny vs Davos is obviously at the heart of the season. However, Danny and Colleen's relationship continues to progress, as does Colleen's friendship with Misty. Davos meanwhile is still working with Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup), and it appears her brother Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) comes to her aid in a time of need, too. Glimpses of Alice Eve as Typhoid Mary are also shown, but without much context. There's plenty of details and teases included to generate discussion, which is exactly what Iron Fist needs as the second season approaches.
Iron Fist season 2 premieres Friday, September 7 on Netflix.
