Iron Fist season 2 is set to begin filming before the end of the year, with a start date confirmed for early next month. News of follow-up seasons for DaredevilJessica Jones, and Luke Cage were swiftly announced after each series premiered on Netflix. When it came to the not-so-beloved Iron Fist, however, it took a bit longer for a second season to be confirmed. Unsurprisingly, Iron Fist will be undergoing some retooling in season 2, with a new showrunner now in charge and Misty Knight (Simone Missick) being added as a recurring player to the series.

Once The Defenders arrived, it was clear that some tweaks had been made to Danny Rand. While Iron Fist made him out to be a bit pompous and insufferable at times given both of his upbringings, The Defenders used this to great comic effect. Danny's status as both a billionaire business owner and mystically-powered protector of an ancient city sets him apart from the more grounded Marvel/Netflix superheroes. As such, humbling the character with plenty of ribbing from his teammates went a long way to making him more enjoyable. Hopefully, Iron Fist season 2 will keep up this tactic, when production gets underway.

Spoiler TV has a number of updated production schedules, and it looks like Iron Fist season 2 will begin shooting on December 6. Iron Fist costar Sacha Dhawan previously confirmed that the plan was for season 2 to begin filming in December, but the new update makes it more official.

Finn Jones began training for Iron Fist season 2 back in September, suggesting that production will be less rushed this time around, compared to season 1. The lack of preparation led to some lackluster fight scenes in season 1, though that was remedied for Iron Fist's battles during The Defenders. Season 2 stands to continue that upward trend, while Misty Knight's inclusion indicates that Danny will continue to be roasted by his allies.

The other intriguing thing about the December start date is what it means for Iron Fist season 2's premiere date. The new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are all expected to premiere in 2018, but it's not clear yet if the plan is for Iron Fist season 2 to join them. Marvel and Netflix premiered three different TV shows in 2017 (Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher), but releasing four seasons in a single year does seem a bit much... though not impossible, of course.

Either way, Danny Rand fans shouldn't have to wait too long to see the character again. Iron Fist is set to appear in Luke Cage season 2 next and, based on that, it seems likely that Luke will also show up during Iron Fist season 2 at some point. Whether or not that means a Heroes for Hire spinoff series may yet be in the cards (as fans have long speculated), is another matter.
