For a sneak peek at the upcoming third season of Daredevil, be sure to stick around after the credits of the Iron Fist season 2 finale. The two series share a smaller corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe made up of Netflix shows that focus on New York City's street-level superheroes - Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher - and Daredevil season 3 is now only a few weeks away.

When we last saw Matt Murdock in The Defenders, he and Elektra were trapped under a collapsing building and lost in the falling rubble. However, Matt was later shown recovering in a convent, clearly injured but finally waking up. The rest of the world (the other Defenders included) still believes that Matt is dead - so will he reveal himself as being alive, or simply keep operating in the shadows?

In Iron Fist season 2's post-credits scene, Matt Murdock is sitting in a confessional wearing his old costume (simple black clothes and a black hood), bleeding from his nose. Holding rosary beads in his hand, he offers an ominous tease for his return in Daredevil season 3:

"I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day. But I was fooling myself. Darkness only responds to darkness. And the truth is, I'd rather die as the devil than live as Matt Murdock."

Based on this clip, it seems that Matt is ready to give up fighting for justice on two fronts - in the courtroom by day, and on the streets by night - in favor of wholly embracing his Daredevil persona. The fact that he's back in his black outfit is also interesting; presumably it's because he lost his custom-made outfit when the building collapsed (when he wakes up in the convent he's wearing only sweatpants and bandages), and hasn't had a chance to replace it. That means that we may well see a new suit design in Daredevil season 3.

While we know that Matt survived the building collapse, it's unclear whether Elektra did as well. Matt definitely seems to be at a low point in this clip, which could well be the result of grief over losing Elektra for a second time. It looks like one of the grimmest and grittiest of the Netflix/Marvel shows is about to get even grimmer and grittier. Still, it's better the devil you know...
