Sacha Dhawan (Davos) has revealed that Marvel and Netflix plan to start filming Iron Fist season 2 this December. Following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage getting their own series, the beginning of this year belonged to Iron Fist. The journey of Danny Rand (Finn Jones) was the final stepping stone in reaching The Defenders - which hits Netflix in just a few weeks. However, unlike its preceding series', Iron Fist was met with harsh critical reactions and a general disdain for what the first season focused on, but also what it didn't include.

Despite the negative reception, Iron Fist was still a hit for Netflix in terms of its draw. With Netflix all-in on their corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it came as no surprise when Iron Fist season 2 was officially confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2017. It also appears that the second season is already doing well in development, with the start of production planned for the end of this year.

Sacha Dhawan debuted as Davos in the back half of Iron Fist season 1, and was asked by ScreenGeek about the potential for season 2. Even though Marvel has yet to officially confirm Davos' return for the sophomore season, Dhawan believes that the new season is scheduled to start filming this December:

It’s definitely not been confirmed whether or not I’ll be in it, but they’re hopefully starting in December. You know with things always changing, Marvel are pretty good adapting to any kind of situation.

The Defenders - Iron Fist (Finn Jones)

If December is the targeted start of production, it will still give Marvel and Netflix a few more months to polish scripts and cast additional new characters. Marvel just announced that Raven Metzner will be the new showrunner in Iron Fist season 2 - replacing Scott Buck - but it is possible he was hired previously and ha already devoted a considerable amount of time to developing the second season. If so, he and the newly-assembled writers room for season 2 should have plenty of time to finalize their plans, ahead of cameras rolling.

Should Dhawan be correct, a December filming start would put Iron Fist season 2 on-course to premiere in either late 2018 or early 2019. We already know that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are filming their second seasons right now, but the curveball in the Netflix/Marvel lineup could be Daredevil season 3. It is expected to film sometime this year too, which would likewise put Daredevil season 3 on-course for a 2018 arrival. It seems rather unlikely that the new seasons for all four of these Marvel/Netflix shows will debut next year, but their production schedules could make it work - if Netflix wants them to.
